Ph.D (Doctor of Philosophy)/ Course Code : 8911

The Institute invites applications for admission to Doctoral of Philosophy (PhD) Courses in the following departments. The total no. of Seats is 24. The number of seats with different Groups is as follows:-

1. Candidates with Medical qualification – 3 seats

2. Candidates with Biological Sciences qualification – 18 seats

3. Candidates with Non- Biological Sciences qualification – 3 seats

The Institute has the discretion to admit the candidates who have the JRF - DBT /DST/ ICMR / UGC qualification (with fellowship only) over and above the number of seats mentioned i.e 24.

Qualification

Medical : MBBS with minimum 55% aggregate marks or MD/MS in the subject concerned. Candidates who have obtained any of these degrees from medical colleges which are not recognized by the Medical Council of India shall not be eligible to apply.

Biological Sciences : Candidates belonging to Biological Sciences Qualification i.e Master’s Degree (Two/Three years course) M.Tech /M.V.Sc/ M.Sc. / PG / M. Phil. Degree in the list of courses mentioned in the eligibility criteria from a recognized University M.Sc. Human Anatomy/M.Sc. Human Genetics/ M.Sc. (Human Physiology) / M.Sc. Neuroscience/ M.Sc. Medical Biochemistry/ M.Sc Biochemistry/M.Sc. Biotechnology/M.Sc. Medical Lab Technology/ M.Sc. Microbiology /M.Sc Biotechnology / M.Sc Biotechnology/ M.Sc Medical Microbiology/ M.Sc Neuro technology/ M.Sc Biotechnology/M.Sc Molecular Biology/M.Sc Life Sciences/M.Sc Biophysics/M.Sc Pathology/Pharmacology/ M.Sc. Nursing / M.Sc. MLT/ M.Sc. (Surgical Nursing) M.Sc. Pharmacology/M. Pharm. M.V.Sc. Veterinary Medicine/ M.V.Sc. Microbiology/ M.V.Sc Pathology / M.V.Sc Microbiology M.Tech. Biotechnology/ M.Tech Biomedical Engineering/ M. Tech. in Engineering designs Master of Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy (Neurology) / Master of Speech And Language Therapy Candidate having eligibility under biological sciences category should have secured at least 60% marks in the last qualifying examination.

Non- Biological Sciences : Candidates belonging to Non-Biological Science Qualification i.e Master’s Degree (Two/Three years course) M.Sc/M.A/ M. Phil. Degree /M.P.H in the following mentioned courses in the eligibility criteria from a recognized University. Candidate having eligibility under non- biological sciences category should have secured at least 60% marks in the last qualifying examination. M.P.H./M.Sc. Biostatistics/Psychology/M.A. Sociology / M.A. Anthropology/ M.Sc. (Medical Social Work)/ M.Sc. Biostatistics / Statistics / M Stat/ M.A. / M. Phil / M.Sc. Psychology

JRF : Candidates who have qualified NET examination (with fellowship only) conducted by UGC/ICMR / CSIR / DBT / DST - Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) within two years only are also eligible to apply. The certificate of JRF eligibility to be uploaded. JRF qualified candidates also have to submit application through online process. However they need to appear for the entrance exam and have to secure minimum marks i.e 50 percentile in the entrance exam otherwise they will not be considered for admission.

Stipendiary Provisions : Students selected for Ph.D. in any of the disciplines will be paid as per JIPMER regulations, a monthly stipend of INR 25,000/- for the First year and Second year. Stipend of INR 28,000/-will be paid for the Third year and the extended period of their studies for Fourth and Fifth Year respectively. A contract has to be executed with JIPMER at the time of admission. In case of discontinuance of the course for any reason the candidate has to pay a penalty as per the terms of the contract executed for mid-stream departure.

OBC :  Rs.1,500 + Transaction Charges as applicable

SC/ST : Rs.1,200 + Transaction Charges as applicable

OPH :  Exempted From Application Fees

Method of Selection :  The Selection for Ph.D. registration will be through MCQ Based Written Examination only (100 Marks)
