Job Description
Applications are invited for admission as Full-time Research Scholar and Part-time Research Scholar to Ph.D. Programme of the Institute for the Autumn Semester of 2017-18.
Name of the Department:
1. Civil Engineering
Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria: For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates) OR Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 9.0 CGPA or 90% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 8.0 CGPA or 80% marks for SC/ST candidates) and having a valid GATE score. (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2016 or 2017). Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme . whose admission to M. Tech /M.S/ME Programme was through GATE (OR) who holds M. Tech/ME Degree and a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2016 or 2017)
2. Computer Applications
For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) MCA with valid Gate Score / M.Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates). Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme. Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme. whose admission to MCA Programme was through NIMCET (OR) Who have completed M.Tech and have a valid GATE Score (GATE 2016 or 2017) (OR) whose admission to M. Tech/ME Programme was through GATE (OR) who holds M. Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2016 or 2017)
3. Computer Science and Engineering
Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria: For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS). Master’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates) OR . Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 9.0 CGPA or 90% marks from recognized Institute or University (minimum 8.0 CGPA or 80% marks for SC/ST candidates) and having valid GATE score, (i.e. those qualified in GATE 2016 or 2017) whose admission to M. Tech/ME Programme was through GATE (OR) who holds M. Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2016 or 2017)
4. Electrical and Electronics Engineering
For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) : Master’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates) OR Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 9.0 CGPA or 90% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 8.0 CGPA or 80% marks for SC/ST candidates) and having a valid GATE score. 10. Chemistry

Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria: For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) . Master’s Degree in Sciences / M. Tech Degree or in appropriate discipline with a

Categories under which the Ph.D. Programmes offered
1. Full-Time Research Scholar (FRS).Student under this category is entitled to fellowship (financial support) from the
Institute as per the MHRD norms
2. Part-Time Research Scholar (PRS). Student under this category is not entitled to any fellowship (financial support) from
the Institute.

having Research MOU with NIT Jamshedpur ,
the people working in PSU’s / Industries having Research MOU with NIT
Jamshedpur, the Institute Faculty at NIT Jamshedpur on regular or contract basis.

Work/Research Experience
ME / M. Tech/MS Degree with at least 3 years experience

Selection Procedure:
The selection procedure for admission to Ph.D. Programme is based on consistently good
academic record throughout and interview performance. Reservations for SC/ST/OBC/PWD
are applicable as per GOI norms.
Institute Fellowship
:The candidates selected for admission to Ph.D. Programme as full-time research scholar is
eligible to receive institute fellowship as follows. The tenure of a research fellowship is four
years only but it is based on the performance of the research work and other assignments of
the Department. The full-time research scholars have to assist in teaching and laboratory
work assigned by the concerned Department.
(a) Candidates joining with Master's Degree in Engineering / Technology or a degree
recognized as equivalent thereto,
Rs.25,000/- per month, for the first two years
Rs.28,000/- per month, in the next two years
(b) Candidates joining with a Master's Degree in Sciences / Humanities / Social Sciences
/MCA / MBA or a degree recognized as equivalent thereto,
Rs. 25,000/- per month, for the first two years
Rs. 28,000/- per month in the next two years
(c) Candidates joining with Bachelors Degree in Engineering / Technology or a degree
recognized as equivalent thereto,
Rs. 25,000/- per month, for the first two years
Rs. 28,000/- per month in the next two years
The above institute fellowships are subjected to change from time to time, under directions
of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur was originally founded as Regional Institute of Technology in 1960 by Dr. Srikrishna Sinha, the then chief minister of Bihar with the aim of nurturing talent and setting high standards of education and excellence. Having been a freedom fighter himself, he chose the auspicious day of 15th August, 1960 to lay the foundation stone. Later upgraded to National Institute of Technology on 27th December, 2002, with the status of a Deemed University, it is now totally under the control of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, New Delhi since 1st April, 2003.
