PhD Admissions August 2019
Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme starting in August 2019.
Computer Science and Engineering: Data Mining, Big Data analytics, Spatial Data Analysis, Sentimental Analysis, Social Media Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cloud Computing, IoT, HPC-Societal, Smart Home Security, Cyber Security, Digital Forensic, Device Finger printing, Social Computing, Financial Engineering, Cloud Computing, HPC-Societal, IoT Cloud, Workflow compilers
Electronics and Communication Engineering: Internet of Things, Energy and Performance Analysis(HPC), Block Chain Technologies, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Computer Vision, Embedded System
Categories of PhD Students:
i) SCHOLARSHIP HOLDERS (FULL-TIME): A candidate who is having INSPIRE/ CSIR/UGC/NBHM can apply for full-time Ph.D programme. Such candidates receives assistantship or fellowship from concerned funding agencies.
ii) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME): A candidate in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry or QIP candidates for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. The candidate must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter in the prescribed format must be attached with the application .
iii) SELF-FINANCED (FULL-TIME): A candidate in this category works full-time towards the PhD Programme. The Institute will not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.
iv) PART-TIME: A candidate in this category must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field and who can pursue the PhD Programme at IIIT Kottayam while continuing the duties of his/her service at the parent organisation. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a candidate. Sponsorship letter in the prescribed format must be attached with the application.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission into PhD Programme:
Minimum CGPA or Percentage of marks in the qualifying degree, with specific requirements has been indicated below:
For admission to the PhD Programme, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:
- Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Science/Computer Applications/Electronics/IT or equivalent area with a minimum Cumulative Grade point average (CGPA) of either 6.0 in a 10 point scale or 60% of marks.
- Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Mathematics or equivalent in a relevant area from any national institute of importance with a minimum CGPA of either 7.0 in a 10 point scale or 70% of marks .
- A student of IIIT Kottayam who is continuing his/her BTech-MS studies and having a minimum CGPA of 7.0 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the institute in the beginning of his/her seventh semester of study. Such students can receive BTech-MS and PhD Degrees. The degrees will be awarded after completion of PhD degree.
Application Fee: An application fee of Rs.500 for general/OBC and Rs 250 for SC/ST/PWD/Female candidates will have to be paid through SBI fee collect.
Selection Criteria: Selection of the candidate will be based on test/interview. Appearing for test/interview does not entitle for admission of the Ph.D. programme.
