Admission to Ph.D. Programme – 2017
Eligibility: 1. Candidates who are Indian citizen and having Post graduate degree in any branch of Life Sciences/Biological Sciences/Biotechnology/ Microbiology/Bioinformatics/ Biophysics or MBBS with at least 60% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) from higher secondary (10+2) onwards. Student belonging to reserve category of Maharashtra state only will be eligible for 5% relaxation. In case CGPA is not based on 10 point scale candidate should provide a statement issued by the respective university including conversion of CGPA to percentage. Candidates, who have appeared for qualifying examination in the academic year 2016-17 and are awaiting results, are also eligible to apply. However, such candidates will have to submit the proof of qualifying marks either at the time of interview or if selected at the time of admission. AND 2. The candidates should have qualified either the Ph.D. entrance test (PET) conducted by the University of Mumbai OR GATE/SET/NET/JRF examination conducted by national agencies such as CSIR/UGC/ICAR/ICMR/DBT/GPAT OR should be a DST-Inspire fellow.
Age Limit: Upper age limit is 28 years as on 4th July 2017 and it is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC/PWD (person with disability) candidates as well as women candidates as per Government of India rules.
Reservation: Will be as per the UGC rules followed by University of Mumbai.
Selection Procedure: The names of the short-listed candidates to be called for personal interview will be displayed on the NIRRH and ICMR website. Candidates will be called for an interview for final selection. The list of Ph.D. guides (who have vacancy for Ph.D. students in their laboratory) and the brief description of the research project to be initiated under them would be given to shortlisted candidates. The date and time for the interviews will be displayed on the website in advance. Final selection would be based on the performance in the interview.
Fellowship: The selected candidates, who have passed JRF examination conducted by CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT can avail fellowship as per the rules of respective funding agency. Non fellowship holders will be provided Institutional fellowship of Rs. 8000/- per month which will be initiated only after successful completion of coursework and Ph.D. proposal presentation. It will be for 2 years and later these students are encouraged to seek fellowship from other funding agencies.
