Job Description

Admission to Ph.D. Programme in Linguistics, 2019

Applications are invited for admission in the Department of Linguistics, University of Calcutta, for the Ph.D. programme leading to Ph. D. degree in Linguistics. At the most 03 candidates will be enrolled this year (2019). The policy of reservation will apply as per rules.

Department :  Linguistics

Applicants who have already passed NET/SET/ SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examinations are not required to appear at the written examination.

Eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination of 3 hours duration, to be held in this Department on the 22nd January, 2019 at 12.30 PM. The format of the said examination is mentioned below. The syllabus is available on the university website

Successful candidates will be called for an interview subsequently. The final selection for the Ph.D programme will be done on the basis of this interview. As per the University of Calcutta regulation 2016 (5.6), the candidate’s interview performance will be judged on three criteria: the competence for the proposed research, whether the research work can be suitably undertaken at the Institution/College and whether the proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
