Ph.D. Programmes (Full time and Part time)

NIFTEM offers Ph.D. programmes in the following departments and areas

a. Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (Post Harvest Management and Processing of fruits and vegetables, Environmental issues in Food Sector)

b. Basic and Applied Sciences (Food Safety, Food Microbiology, Food diagnostics, Lipid Oxidation, Food fortification, Prebiotics, Biosensors, Active Packaging, Green Energy Technology, Smart materials and nano-composites, Mathematical Biology, Queuing Theory, Studies for setting up of MRL values for various toxicants in food products, Analytical instrumentation & New Analytical method development & validation, Shelf life studies, Risk Assessment studies for various toxicants in food products, Packaging compatibility studies, Structure-Activity correlation, Bio-availability & ADME studies, Nutraceuticals & Functional food, Quality standardization, Harmonization of standards, Calibration for Quality Assurance, Food Quality Systems, Food Regulation & Policies) Note: All research work undertaken would be related to their application in the Food Sector.

c. Food Engineering (Static and Dynamic analysis of the Components, Drying Technology, Energy and Exergy analysis, Design and development of processing equipments)

d. Food Business Management and Entrepreneurship Development (Agribusiness, Finance and Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource, Operations, Decision Sciences, Entrepreneurship, Operations Management, Food Supply Chain Management, etc.)

e. Food Science and Technology (Food Technology, Waste Utilization, value addition, New Product Development, in vitro and in vivo safety evaluation, Nutraceuticals, etc.)

Eligibility : M.Tech/ Master Degree in a relevant discipline with at least 60% marks at Masters. Preference will be given to NET qualified candidates. Candidates can apply only in one department.

Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (AES)

M.Tech. in Food Science/ Food Technology and Management/ Food Safety and Quality Management /Food Supply Chain Management OR M.Sc. Degree in Food Science & Technology/Life Science/ Agriculture/Environmental and Allied area from recognized institute/university.

Basic and Applied Sciences (BAS)

M.Tech. in Food Science/ Food Technology and Management/ Food Technology/ Dairy Technology/ Dairy and Food Technology/ Food Process Engineering and Management/ Food Safety and Quality Management / Food Supply Chain Management from a recognized University/ Institute. In addition Masters degree in Food Science and Technology/ Biochemistry/Microbiology/ Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Life Sciences/Agricultural Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/Mathematics/ Statistics/Operational Research/ Physics/Materials Science from a recognized University / Institute

Food Business Management (FBM)

M.Tech in Food Plant Operations Management/ MBA (two years program) or equivalent from a recognized University / Institute  PGDM (two year program) from a recognized institute duly approved by AICTE provided that the institution awarding. “PGDM' should be approved by Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to MBA.

Food Engineering (FE)

M.Tech. in Food Science/Food Technology and Management/ Food Process Engineering and Management/Food Technology/ Food Process Engineering/ Food Engineering / Dairy Engineering / Dairy Technology/ Agricultural Process Engineering/ Agricultural & Food Engineering/ / Mechanical Engineering/Automatic and Robotics Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Biochemical Engineering.

Food Science and Technology (FST)

M.Tech. Food Science / Food Technology and Management / Food Safety and Quality Management / Food Supply Chain Management/ Food Technology / Food Process Engineering / Food Engineering / Dairy Engineering / Dairy Technology / Agricultural Process Engineering / Agricultural & Food Engineering from a recognized university / institute. In addition M. Sc. in Food Technology / Food Science & Technology / Food Science & Nutrition / Meat Science/ Meat Technology OR M.Sc. in Animal Product Technology/ Live Stock Product Technology are also eligible for admission. Such candidate may be required to go deficiency courses as per curriculum.

Number of Seats :  A total number of 30 (full time and part time) seats are available for Indian Nationals in the five departments.

Scholarships And Financial Support :  The NET qualified candidates (without JRF) selected through the above process shall be allowed to enroll for Ph. D. degree program at NIFTEM and it shall provide a NIFTEM Ph.D. Fellowship ( Rs. 16,000/-, Rs. 18,000/- and Rs. 20,000/- per month in the first, second and third year, respectively). Those without NET shall be provided with NIFTEM Ph.D. scholarship (Rs. 15,000/-, Rs. 16,000/- and Rs. 17,000/- per month in the first, second and third year, respectively).

Selection Process :  Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/ICAR-NET (including JRF) /SLET shall be exempted from Research Entrance Test (RET) in line with clause 5.1 of UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Awards of M. Phil and PhD Degrees) Regulations 2016.
