About Company

Lifeline Foundation and its world acclaimed Highway EMS (Highway Rescue Project – HRP) was born of a physically unbearable and mentally distressful experience, the founders (Dr Subroto Das & Sushmita Das) had to undergo following an accident in August 1999 on a rainy night on India’s busiest highways connecting Mumbai to Delhi - NH8; badly injured with life threatening injuries, they were left stranded without help for 4 dark hours.

Without losing hope, they fought for their own and the lives of their co-passengers.

At early dawn, they finally managed help; time spent during recovery was used to crystallize their innovative idea.  With singular focus (“we were lucky to be alive, we did not want others to die on highways”), the couple worked on various ideas to ensure accident victims the safety of a hospital and that lives are not lost on highways of Gujarat.

Three years hence, the couple developed the idea of an integrated and centralized network of ambulances and other rescue utilities.  Without owning a single facility, the couple with this refreshingly new idea networkedambulances, cranes, metal cutters, police facilities, hospitals and blood banks to launch HRP on NH8 on 1st July 2002.

Mapping the highway, incorporating each and every named and unnamed landmark on the highway, developing a GIS to locate the caller (in an age when India did not have GPS), setting up a 24-hour control room with no precedence of this magnitude in South Asia, team Lifeline initiated the project on 263 kms of NH8 between Ahmedabad and Surat.
