Job Description
Admission to PhD
Programme at CDS is subject to the provisions of UGC regulations.
The CDS invites applications for admission to its PhD
programme in Economics. The full-time residential programme will commence on Thursday, August 01, 2019.
Eligibility : As per UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure
for Award of MPhil/PhD Degrees) Regulations of 2016 mentioned below Candidates
for admission to the Ph D programme shall have: An M. Phil degree from any
Indian university recognized by the UGC or from a foreign educational
institution OR Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to
the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at
least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point
scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is
followed) OR an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution
accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved,
recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a
law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for
the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of
educational institutions. Eligibility for admission does not ensure fellowship.
Fellowship award will be based on a separate interview in the presence of
sponsoring agencies A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an
equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to
SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/Person with Disability (PWD) and other categories
of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for
those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The
relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only
on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures. Those
awaiting results of the qualifying examination may also apply. Such candidates,
if selected, will be allowed to join the programme only if their previous
institutions certify that they have completed all requirements for award of
degree. The name of such candidate shall stand automatically removed from the
rolls of the Centre & University if he/she fails to acquire the relevant
degree or the relevant marks/ grades stipulated above in Master’s programme, when
his/her results are announced.
Financial Assistance : Selected PhD scholars may avail ICSSR
fellowships on a competitive basis through a separate interview in the presence
of sponsoring agencies. Scholars are encouraged to avail fellowship through
various national fellowships such as UGC –JRF etc.
A limited number of opportunities exist for internship in a
university/institution in Europe/UK for three months and may be availed by
Research Scholars on a competitive basis through the stipulated selection
procedure.
Application Fee : Application Fee of Rs. 300, as a DD from State Bank of India (SBI) only drawn in
favour of the Centre for Development Studies, payable at Trivandrum(SBI
Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Branch Code- 070029). The application fee is
non-refundable.
Examination Centres : Entrance test is scheduled on Sunday, May 19th2019 from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon at Bardhaman, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kozhikode, New Delhi, Pune & Thiruvananthapuram. Candidates will be shortlisted for interview on the basis of the Entrance test. Interview will be scheduled between July 02, 2019 and July 12, 2019 at CDS, Thiruvananthapuram. No TA/DA will be provided for attending the Entrance Test. The candidates are advised to make their own arrangements for travelling and lodging for attending the Entrance Test.
