A phlebotomist's responsibilities include:
Patient preparation: Greeting patients, helping them check in, and explaining procedures
Patient identification: Using accurate patient identification techniques
Blood draw: Performing venipuncture, or drawing blood from a patient's vein
Sample preparation: Preparing blood for medical testing, labeling the sample, and storing it
Communication: Keeping patients calm and explaining the procedure clearly
Legal regulations: Understanding legal regulations related to blood drawing, specimen handling, and medical equipment usage
Tool sterilization: Sterilizing tools and disposing of used equipment
Inventory: Maintaining an inventory of equipment
Phlebotomist may also run tests on blood samples in
hospitals and clinics.
