Job Summary:
A Physiotherapist is a healthcare professional responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and preventing a wide range of physical conditions and injuries. They help patients of all ages manage pain, improve mobility, and restore function following illness, injury, or surgery. Through therapeutic techniques, exercises, manual therapy, and patient education, physiotherapists promote recovery, wellness, and independence.
This role requires a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and movement science, as well as excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Physiotherapists may work in hospitals, clinics, private practices, rehabilitation centers, sports organizations, or provide home-based care.
Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:

Conduct thorough assessments of patients through physical examinations, medical history reviews, and functional tests.

Identify physical problems and functional limitations related to injury, illness, disability, or lifestyle factors.

Diagnose musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, or respiratory conditions that affect movement and function.

Treatment Planning:

Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and patient goals.

Set realistic, measurable objectives for therapy, considering the patient's lifestyle, occupation, and medical history.

Collaborate with physicians, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.

Therapeutic Interventions:

Administer physical therapy treatments, including manual therapy, soft tissue mobilization, and joint manipulation.

Design and guide patients through specific exercise programs aimed at improving strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance.

Utilize equipment such as ultrasound, TENS units, heat/cold therapy, and traction devices as needed.

Rehabilitation and Recovery:

Support patients recovering from surgeries (e.g., orthopedic procedures), strokes, fractures, sports injuries, or chronic conditions such as arthritis or back pain.

Monitor progress and adapt treatment plans to ensure optimal recovery.

Provide education on injury prevention, pain management, and long-term wellness strategies.

Patient Education and Communication:

Educate patients and caregivers about their conditions, treatment methods, and exercises to continue at home.

Motivate patients to take an active role in their recovery and adherence to treatment plans.

Provide clear, compassionate, and professional communication at all times.

Maintain accurate and timely records of patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes.

Prepare reports for insurance providers, referring physicians, or legal cases when necessary.

Stay up to date with the latest advancements in physiotherapy techniques, equipment, and research.

Skills and Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physiotherapy (BPT/MPT or equivalent).

Valid registration or licensure with the appropriate governing body (e.g., HCPC in the UK, NPTE in the US, or local council).

Core Skills:

Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics.

Proficiency in therapeutic exercise techniques and manual therapy.
