Job description
– Knowledge about hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical power press
– Experience in managing production in sheet metal press shop
– Experience in automobile industry and production environment
– Experience with engineering drawings & measuring instruments
– Excellent technical and problem-solving skills.
– Good leadership and team working skills
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Planning and Execution:
-
Plan and oversee daily production activities in the press shop based on the production schedule and customer requirements.
-
Ensure that production targets (volume, quality, efficiency) are met while maintaining high levels of safety and discipline.
-
Allocate manpower, machines, and tools efficiently to ensure smooth operations.
-
Monitor machine uptime and output regularly and take corrective action when deviations occur.
2. Process Management:
-
Define and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all press operations.
-
Evaluate and optimize existing production processes to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
-
Coordinate die changeovers to minimize machine idle time.
-
Maintain process sheets and work instructions for all operations in the press shop.
3. Tooling and Die Maintenance:
-
Coordinate with the tool room and maintenance departments for the upkeep, preventive maintenance, and repair of dies and tools.
-
Ensure proper die setting and alignment on press machines.
-
Monitor tool wear and take preventive steps to avoid defects or downtime.
-
Maintain inventory of dies, punches, and consumables required for sheet metal processing.
4. Quality Assurance:
-
Ensure that components produced in the press shop meet quality standards and customer specifications.
-
Conduct in-process inspections and collaborate with the quality team to resolve any quality-related issues.

Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring defects or non-conformities.
-
Implement mistake-proofing (poka-yoke) systems to reduce quality defects.
5. Safety and Compliance:
-
Promote and enforce safety standards in the press shop environment.
-
Ensure all press machines, lifting tools, and related equipment are operated in compliance with safety norms.

Conduct regular safety drills and provide training to press operators.
-
Report and investigate any workplace accidents or near-misses, and implement preventive measures.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
-
Maintain accurate records of production data, machine utilization, rejection rates, and downtime.

Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly production reports to the production manager.

Analyze production metrics and initiate improvements based on data insights.
-
Document preventive and breakdown maintenance activities for all machinery in the press shop.
7. Manpower Management:
-
Supervise and guide the team of press operators, helpers, and technicians.
-
Provide on-the-job training for new operators on press operation, die setting, and quality standards.
-
Evaluate operator performance and recommend promotions, transfers, or disciplinary actions as required.
-
Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the shop floor.
8. Coordination and Cross-Functional Collaboration:
-
Collaborate with the planning and design teams to ensure manufacturability of sheet metal parts.

Work with the purchase department to ensure availability of raw materials and consumables.
-
Coordinate with maintenance and tool room teams for timely support on repairs or modifications.
-
Participate in product development meetings to provide input on tooling and manufacturability.
9. Cost Optimization and Continuous Improvement:
-
Identify and implement cost-saving measures related to material usage, tooling life, and cycle time reduction.

Participate in kaizen initiatives, lean manufacturing projects, and 5S implementation.
-
Monitor and control scrap generation, rework, and other sources of wastage.
-
Drive continuous improvement efforts by applying Six Sigma or similar methodologies.
