Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Relay Testing and Commissioning Engineer to join our engineering team. This role involves carrying out testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protective relays and associated systems in substations, power plants, industrial complexes, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in power system protection and control, hands-on expertise in modern relay test equipment, and strong analytical skills to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with project specifications.
The Relay Testing and Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for planning and executing the commissioning of protection relays and ensuring that all protection schemes operate correctly before energization. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the safety and functionality of electrical networks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Relay Testing and Configuration:

Perform secondary injection testing using advanced relay testing kits (e.g., Omicron, Doble, Megger) on protective relays such as overcurrent, differential, distance, earth fault, and voltage relays.

Conduct primary injection tests to verify current transformer (CT) and protection circuit functionality.

Configure and program digital/numerical relays from manufacturers like Siemens, ABB, Schneider, GE, SEL, and others.

Verify and validate relay settings as per protection coordination studies.
2. Commissioning Activities:

Execute full commissioning procedures for electrical protection systems in HV, MV, and LV switchgear and substations.

Carry out functional testing of control and protection circuits, interlocks, SCADA interfaces, and breaker trip circuits.

Energize panels, test schemes, and simulate faults to ensure the protection system responds accurately.

Coordinate with project and client teams during FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing).
3. Testing of Associated Equipment:

Test CTs, VTs, circuit breakers, switchgear, control panels, and interlocking schemes.

Perform insulation resistance and continuity checks.

Conduct end-to-end testing of communication-assisted protection schemes (e.g., distance protection via fiber optic).
4. Documentation & Reporting:

Prepare detailed test reports, relay settings files, as-built documentation, and commissioning records.

Maintain proper documentation for all equipment tested and commissioned.

Submit reports to the commissioning lead or client for review and approval.
5. Compliance & Safety:

Ensure all work complies with IEC, IEEE, IS, and NETA standards.

Adhere strictly to safety protocols, including lockout-tagout (LOTO), PPE use, and site-specific safety regulations.

Participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks before commencing work.
6. Client Coordination & Technical Support:

Liaise with design, engineering, and client teams to clarify protection schemes, settings, and commissioning scopes.

Support troubleshooting activities during faults, relay malfunctions, or abnormal operations during commissioning.

Provide technical advice during project execution and post-commissioning.
