Job Description
Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, preparing accurate financial reports, ensuring compliance with internal controls and external regulations, and supporting strategic financial planning. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization and contributes directly to decision-making processes by providing timely and reliable financial data.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced professional who is capable of managing complex accounting functions while mentoring junior staff and supporting leadership with financial insights.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting and Analysis

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).

Ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and supporting schedules.

Analyze financial performance and variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.

Prepare reports for internal stakeholders, management, auditors, and regulators.
2. Month-End and Year-End Close

Manage and coordinate the month-end and year-end close processes.

Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.

Reconcile bank accounts, vendor accounts, and other balance sheet items.

Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded in the accounting system.
3. Budgeting and Forecasting

Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic re-forecasts.

Collaborate with departmental heads to gather budget inputs and monitor performance against budget.

Provide financial projections, trend analysis, and scenario modeling.
4. Compliance and Internal Controls
-
Ensure compliance with local, national, and international financial regulations and reporting standards.

Maintain internal controls over financial reporting and operational procedures.

Identify risks and recommend process improvements to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.

Coordinate with external auditors for statutory audits and implement audit recommendations.
5. Taxation
-
Prepare and file tax returns including VAT, corporate tax, withholding tax, and other statutory filings.

Ensure timely payment of taxes and compliance with tax regulations.

Liaise with tax advisors and authorities as required.
6. Accounts Payable and Receivable Oversight

Review and approve vendor invoices and payments.

Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue accounts.

Assist in cash flow management and planning.
7. Asset Management
-
Maintain and update the fixed asset register.

Calculate depreciation and ensure proper capitalization of assets.

Conduct periodic physical verification of fixed assets.
8. Team Supervision and Collaboration

Support and guide junior accountants and finance assistants.
-
Delegate tasks, review work for accuracy, and ensure adherence to deadlines.

Work cross-functionally with departments such as HR, Procurement, and Operations.
