The Position: The Senior Program Manager should be driven by the desire to achieve an impact on poverty through high-quality development interventions in close coordination with project partners. The Senior Program Manager will have overall responsibility for all aspects of project implementation and reporting. He/she will directly supervise an interdisciplinary team of specialists. The position will be based in Guwahati, India and will report to Regional Director ASIA. This is a Nationally recruited position that will work closely with other CIP science teams at CIP regional office in New Delhi, India and its headquarter in Lima, Peru. The assignment will include frequent travel within Assam and India.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Conceptualize, plan, supervise and lead the implementation and reporting of plans and programs related to the assigned subunit.
• Serve a part of the organization’s leadership team and contribute and lead to specific outputs of the strategic business plans.
• Develop and oversee the implementation of strategies in accordance with agreed objectives of the Project and the team.
• Manage the preparation and/or development of annual work/budget plans based on research objectives and monitor the implementation.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with various stakeholders (public and private sectors), to coordinate cross-functional research project outputs, timelines and delivery of new technologies/ techniques.
• Participate in organization-wide activities and represent CIP at internal and external events.
• Publish scientific papers in high-impact academic journals according to the discipline, prepare project reports and policy briefs.
• Lead the preparations of research proposals and actively help to secure funds and support.
• Supervise direct staff and contribute to their performance evaluations and identify succession planning and development.

What are we looking for?

• PhD level degree in agriculture, social sciences or another relevant field with strong field experience.
• Strong experience of at least 15 years in the agriculture-related area, coordinating multi-institutional collaboration projects.  
• Project Management-Budget Monitoring-Advanced studies in a specific field related to agriculture.
• field-based rural development project promoting agricultural or other technological innovation, preferably in potato in India and Asia.
• Excellent knowledge of innovation systems research and underlying social science methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative.
• Experience of coordinating multi-institutional collaboration in support of rural communities and their governance structures.
• Experience in fundraising research, technical reporting and budget monitoring.
• Strong understanding of integrating gender and other social equity considerations into project design and delivery.
• Experience of coordinating rigorous M&E and hands-on technical reporting.
• Strong experience of using communication technologies as research and development tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are a must; additional communication skills in Hindi are an additional asset.
• Good record of scientific and technical publications.
• Willingness to travel frequently in-country and work under field conditions.
