SHUTTERING CARPENTER
Job Description
Exciting job opportunities in UAE!
Key Responsibilities
-
Formwork Construction
-
Design and Build Formwork: The primary duty of a shuttering carpenter is to build formwork that can hold concrete during the curing process. This involves creating molds from wood, plywood, steel, or other materials according to the specifications of engineers and architects.
-
Shape and Size of Formwork: Measure and cut materials to the required size to create precise and strong molds. Shuttering carpenters need to ensure that the dimensions match the engineering drawings to avoid errors.
-
Assembly and Erection of Formwork: Assemble the formwork components on-site, ensuring that they are securely fastened and aligned to form the desired shape for the concrete structure.
-
Reinforcement Placement: Place reinforcement bars (rebar) or other reinforcements inside the formwork as per the structural design, ensuring that the concrete will have the necessary strength.
-
-
Ensuring Safety Standards
-
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and standards, ensuring that formwork is built to handle the pressure of wet concrete. Proper bracing and shoring are critical to avoid collapse.
-
Worksite Safety: Use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, safety boots, and eye protection. Additionally, make sure the work area is free of any potential hazards that may cause accidents during formwork construction.
-
-
Formwork Installation and Adjustments
-
Proper Installation: Install and secure formwork with the correct placement to ensure the structural integrity of the mold. The formwork must be aligned precisely to avoid misalignment or defects in the final concrete product.
-
Leveling and Plumb Checking: Ensure that the formwork is level, plumb, and square to maintain the structural accuracy of the concrete. Any deviations could result in a substandard finished product.
-
Adjustments and Fixing: Make any necessary adjustments to formwork components during construction to accommodate design changes or unforeseen issues.
-
-
Concrete Pouring Preparation
-
Ready for Pouring: Ensure that formwork is ready for the pouring of concrete by checking its structural integrity, ensuring proper bracing, and ensuring no leakage occurs.
-
Waterproofing: In some cases, shuttering carpenters may be responsible for ensuring that the formwork is sealed or waterproofed, preventing concrete leakage.
-
-
Dismantling Formwork
-
Safe Removal: Once the concrete has hardened, the shuttering carpenter’s job is to dismantle the formwork safely, ensuring no damage is done to the cured concrete.
-
Reusing Materials: Reusable formwork is cleaned and prepared for future use. The carpenter must ensure that the materials are not damaged during dismantling and are suitable for reuse in future construction projects.
-
-
Maintenance of Tools and Equipment
-
Tool and Equipment Care: Maintain and care for the carpentry tools and equipment used in constructing formwork, including saws, drills, hammers, measuring tapes, and power tools.
-
Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect tools for safety and functionality, and repair or replace any damaged or worn-out equipment.
-
-
Collaboration with Other Construction Workers
-
Teamwork: Work closely with other members of the construction team, such as masons, engineers, and laborers, to ensure that the formwork is properly integrated into the overall construction plan.
-
Communication: Effectively communicate any issues with the formwork or adjustments needed in design to supervisors or engineers.
-
-
Quality Control
-
Accurate Measurement: Ensure all measurements are accurate to avoid discrepancies in the finished structure. Use measuring tools like levels, squares, and tape measures to maintain precision.
-
Adherence to Specifications: Follow technical drawings and specifications provided by the engineers or architects to construct formwork that meets structural and design requirements.
