Position Overview
A Software Tester is responsible for ensuring the quality and functionality of software applications by thoroughly testing and identifying bugs, usability issues, and inconsistencies before the product is released to users. This role involves manual and automated testing methods, reviewing system requirements, designing test scenarios, and documenting results to ensure the application meets both technical specifications and user expectations.
The ideal candidate for this role is analytical, detail-oriented, and has a good understanding of software development life cycles, testing methodologies, and tools. Software Testers work closely with developers, product managers, and other QA team members to maintain high standards of software reliability and user satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities

Understanding Requirements and Specifications

Collaborate with developers, product owners, and business analysts to understand system requirements and user stories.

Review design documents, technical specifications, and functional requirements to prepare appropriate testing strategies.

Test Planning and Strategy

Develop test plans, including objectives, scope, resources, timelines, and risk assessments.

Identify test scenarios and conditions based on specifications and user requirements.

Test Case Design and Execution

Design, write, and execute detailed test cases for functional, regression, integration, and system testing.

Ensure test cases cover all positive and negative test conditions.

Document test data requirements, environment settings, and expected outcomes.

Bug Tracking and Reporting

Log identified defects with detailed steps to reproduce, screenshots, and severity/priority levels.

Use bug-tracking tools such as JIRA, Bugzilla, or Mantis for issue reporting and management.

Work closely with developers to clarify issues and retest fixes.

Automation Testing

Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools like Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, or Cypress.

Execute automated tests regularly and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.

Analyze automation results and update test suites as needed.

Performance and Security Testing

Support performance testing by using tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner to validate speed, scalability, and reliability.

Report bottlenecks and ensure the application performs well under expected load conditions.

Assist with basic security testing or coordinate with a security team to ensure compliance with standards.

Regression Testing and Maintenance

Perform regression testing after every code change, patch, or release to ensure existing functionalities are not broken.

Maintain and update existing test cases and test data for ongoing product changes.

Documentation and Reporting

Prepare and maintain comprehensive test documentation including test case results, defect logs, and status reports.

Communicate testing progress, risks, and results to project stakeholders and QA leadership.

Create test summary reports post-test execution cycles.

Collaboration and Communication

Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.

Provide inputs for improving test strategies and QA processes.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams for deployment support and release validation.
