Job Description
Special education teachers work with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. They adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, to students with mild and moderate disabilities. They also teach basic skills, such as literacy and communication techniques, to students with severe disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students
- Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student
- Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities
- Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one
- Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress
- Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals
- Discuss student’s progress with the organization’s Director and Responsible SPOCs for students
- Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities
- Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade.

Sewadham Ashram an NGO established in 1989 and is located in central India, Ujjain (MP).
Sewadham is a lifetime shelter and rehabilitation center for homeless, helpless, abandoned, old, disabled, mentally ill, dying, destitute people and special children we often see them at bus – railway station, street, footpath, pavers, hospitals, temples and other public. They are neglected by their own families and the society.
Our residents are coming from across the country without discrimination of caste, creed, religion, age and sex. Mentally ill pregnant – exploited women, wed – un-wed mothers and their kids also find safe shelter and care at Sewahdam including special children abandoned by their own parents. Sewadham is creating a lasting impact on the lives of abandoned, neglected, vulnerable and excluded mentally and physically challenged section of the society and their communities. Presently, Sewadham is a home for 500+ members from the age group of 0-100+ years.
Sewadham services include safe shelter, protection, healthy nutritious food, safe drinking water, quality education, medical support, health care services, physiotherapy, naturopathy, a healthy environment, livelihood opportunities, sanitation, vocational and self-reliance training to make them self-dependent and live life with self-respect and dignity in the main stream of the society.
