Job Description
- Proficiency in SQL for complex query development
- Expertise in data cleansing, validation, and pre-processing (structured & unstructured data)
- knowledge of insurance reporting, analytics, and visualization
- Understand the basics of SQL commands
Key Responsibilities
1. Database Installation and Configuration
-
Install and configure SQL Server instances (on-premises or cloud-based) for development, testing, and production environments.

Set up high availability and disaster recovery solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Mirroring, or Replication.

Configure and maintain SQL Server Agent jobs, alerts, and notifications.
2. Maintenance and Monitoring
-
Monitor database performance using tools such as SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs).

Perform regular health checks on databases and servers to identify issues early.
-
Ensure database uptime, availability, and reliability in compliance with SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
-
Maintain index optimization, statistics updates, and database integrity checks.
3. Backup and Recovery
-
Design and implement backup strategies that ensure data safety and compliance with organizational policies.
-
Perform scheduled full, differential, and transaction log backups.
-
Test and document database recovery procedures and conduct recovery drills.
-
Perform database restores as needed for data recovery or environment refreshes.
4. Security and Compliance
-
Implement and manage database-level security, including roles, users, permissions, and encryption.
-
Audit and review user activity, access control, and compliance with industry standards (such as GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).

Apply security patches and database updates as part of ongoing maintenance.
5. Query Optimization and Troubleshooting
-
Analyze and optimize poorly performing queries using execution plans, query tuning, and index optimization.

Work with developers to optimize stored procedures, views, and functions.

Resolve blocking, deadlocks, and long-running transactions in real-time.
6. Development and Support
-
Support database development tasks such as writing and reviewing stored procedures, views, triggers, and functions.

Provide support to developers and QA teams during application development and testing cycles.

Migrate databases between environments and support release deployments.

Maintain version control for scripts and configurations using tools like Git or TFS.
7. Documentation and Reporting
-
Maintain comprehensive documentation for all database systems, configurations, processes, and policies.

Create and schedule reports for system performance, usage statistics, and error logs.
-
Prepare capacity planning reports and provide input for infrastructure scaling decisions.
8. Collaboration and Communication
-
Collaborate with project managers, developers, and business analysts to understand database requirements.
-
Participate in system design discussions and contribute to database architecture decisions.

Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
