the biggest of its kind in Asia, well equipped with the most sophisticated
instruments for carrying out basic and applied research, especially in the
frontier areas like Bio-technology and smoke research at Rajahmundry (E.G.Dist.
of A.P.). It is recognised by several universities like Andhra University,
Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Bhagalpur University, Nagarjuna
University, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri for the award of Ph.D.
degree through Research. At present about 530 employees including 54 Scientists,
179 technical staff and 300 administrative and other staff are working in this
institute for the development of tobacco in the country. Due to the everlasting
research done in the Institute for 50 years, several
tobacco farmers are benefited by following the package of practices and
production technology developed by the scientists of this Institute.
