Key Responsibilities:
1. Structural Steel Assembly and Installation:
-
Assemble and fit steel components based on engineering drawings or plans.

Cut, grind, drill, and shape metal pieces to required dimensions using power and hand tools.

Weld or bolt steel parts into position as per fabrication requirements.
2. Blueprint and Drawing Interpretation:
-
Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, layout plans, and welding symbols.
-
Determine the materials, tools, and techniques needed for each project.
-
Mark and align reference points and dimensions on materials using measuring instruments.
3. On-Site Fabrication and Erection:
-
Install structural steel frameworks, platforms, staircases, beams, columns, and trusses at construction sites.
-
Use cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment to position heavy steel components.
-
Align parts to specifications using levels, plumb bobs, squares, and other measuring devices.
4. Welding and Finishing:
-
Perform basic welding and tack-welding to temporarily hold parts in place.
-
Clean and prepare joints for welding or bolting.
-
Apply anti-corrosion coatings, primers, or paints if required.
5. Maintenance and Repair:
-
Inspect steel components for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage.
-
Perform necessary repairs or replacements to restore the strength and integrity of the structure.

Carry out regular maintenance of tools and equipment.
6. Safety and Compliance:
-
Follow all safety procedures and guidelines on-site, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
Ensure that all work meets quality and safety standards, such as those set by OSHA or site-specific regulations.

Identify and report potential hazards or structural risks.
7. Team Collaboration:
-
Work closely with engineers, welders, crane operators, and construction teams.

Follow directions from supervisors and communicate any challenges or concerns effectively.

Help train apprentices or junior fitters, if needed.
