Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. STP Operation and Monitoring:
-
Operate the hospital's sewage treatment plant (STP) on a day-to-day basis to ensure optimal functioning.

Monitor the flow and operation of equipment such as aeration tanks, clarifiers, blowers, dosing pumps, and filters.
-
Regulate valves, control panels, and machinery to maintain flow rates and achieve desired water treatment levels.
2. Water Quality and Testing:
-
Regularly test water and effluent samples (pH, BOD, COD, TSS, etc.) to ensure output meets pollution control norms.
-
Record daily readings and maintain logs of plant parameters, chemical usage, and test results.

Identify irregularities or fluctuations in water quality and take corrective action or escalate to maintenance teams.
3. Equipment Maintenance and Housekeeping:
-
Perform routine cleaning, backwashing of filters, removal of sludge, and basic preventive maintenance of equipment.

Clean tanks, remove sludge, and ensure effluent pipelines are not clogged.

Report mechanical issues, wear and tear, or potential hazards to the engineering supervisor for timely repair.
4. Chemical Handling and Dosing:
-
Safely handle and dose treatment chemicals (such as chlorine, alum, lime, etc.) as required by plant specifications.

Maintain stock records and usage logs of all chemicals and consumables.

Ensure safe storage and labeling of hazardous materials in line with safety standards.
5. Recordkeeping and Reporting:
-
Maintain daily operational logbooks, maintenance reports, chemical usage logs, and test result sheets.

Prepare monthly reports for hospital management and pollution control board inspections.
-
Assist in documentation required for audits, licenses, or environmental clearances.
6. Safety and Environmental Compliance:
-
Follow all workplace safety protocols, including PPE usage, confined space safety, and spill prevention.

Ensure that treated water is discharged only after meeting regulatory discharge standards.

Keep the STP area clean, secure, and free of biohazard risks.
