Summer Internship Programme -201
The NITK -Summer Internship Programme (NITK-SIP) aims to promote awareness and interest in good quality academic research among young students of Engineering,Basic Sciences, Management and Humanities through an Internship during summer vacation. The internships will be financially supported by the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal. Totally 50 internships will be provided. Students selected from eligible applicants, will get the opportunity to work on research mini-projects under the mentor ship of NITK faculty during the coming summer vacation (22nd May,2017–05th July 2017).
Eligibility: Students who are presently completing the third year (or sixth semester) B.Tech/ BE, and students completing the first year (or second semester) of M.Tech/ ME/ M.Sc./ MBA are eligible to apply for NITK-SIP. Selection of interns will be made by respectivedepartments based on academic performance in university examinations, paper presentations at conferences/workshops, projects executed, design contests participated, and other awards/distinctions obtained. Preference will be given to students from Institutions with which NITK has an MoU for academic and research cooperation
Contact Period: Students selected for NITK-SIP are required to be present in the campus and carry out the allotted projectworkovera contact period ofminimum 30days anda maximum of 45 days between22ndMay,2017to05thJuly 2017.
Stipend: A stipend of Rs.100/-per day will be paid to each student during the contact periodmentioned above.Allowance for food, at a rate Rs.100/-per day,will be paid separately.The Internswill be provided access to the Central Libraryand the Central ComputerCenter, at NITK. Accommodation willwe provided to the students in NITK Hostels
Additional Details: A faculty-mentorwill be allotted to each student selected for NITK-SIP, from the relevant department. After finalizing the area of study in consultation with the faculty mentoreach student is required to submit an initial report (of 1-2 pages)containingintroduction to the projecttopic, the work-planforthe research workand the expected outcome of the project.
On completion of the NITK-SIP program, each student is required to submit a detailed technical report (of 20-30 pages),containing description of the research problem, literature survey, details of the methodology adopted, details of the experiments carried out,list of items procured for the project and the findings/ conclusions ofthe study. The intern is also required to present his work through a seminar in the department, which will form the basis for assessment of the project work. Onsuccessfulcompletion ofthe project, the internwill be awarded acommendation certificatebyNITK
