Job Description
A Tally Accountant is a financial professional responsible for managing, recording, and maintaining an organization’s financial transactions using Tally software. Tally is one of the most widely used accounting software in India and several other countries, and proficiency in it is a critical skill for accountants in businesses of all sizes. The role of a Tally Accountant extends beyond basic bookkeeping; it involves ensuring accuracy in financial data, compliance with tax regulations, preparation of financial reports, and supporting management in decision-making with accurate insights.
This position is integral to smooth financial operations within a company, as the Tally Accountant ensures that all income, expenditure, assets, and liabilities are properly recorded and analyzed. Key Responsibilities

Accounting Entries in Tally

Recording daily financial transactions such as sales, purchases, payments, receipts, and journal entries.

Maintaining ledgers for creditors, debtors, banks, and other accounts.

Reconciling entries with supporting documents like invoices, bills, or vouchers.

Maintaining Books of Accounts
-
Ensuring that all financial records are updated, accurate, and organized.

Handling double-entry bookkeeping systems effectively.
-
Preparing trial balances, balance sheets, profit & loss accounts, and cash flow statements with the help of Tally software.

Taxation and Statutory Compliance
-
Preparing and filing GST returns, TDS, and other statutory filings.
-
Generating GST invoices through Tally and ensuring compliance with government rules and regulations.

Coordinating with auditors or tax consultants for statutory audits and assessments.

Payroll Processing
-
Managing employee payroll in Tally, including salaries, bonuses, and deductions.

Ensuring statutory compliance related to PF, ESI, and professional tax.
-
Maintaining employee records and preparing salary slips.
-

Banking and Reconciliation
-
Handling bank transactions including deposits, withdrawals, fund transfers, and payments.

Preparing monthly bank reconciliation statements (BRS).
-
Monitoring daily cash flow and ensuring sufficient liquidity for business operations.

Inventory and Stock Management
-
Managing inventory transactions such as stock inflow and outflow in Tally.
-
Recording purchase and sales orders, tracking stock levels, and generating stock reports.
-
Coordinating with the warehouse or stores department to ensure accurate stock data.

Financial Reporting

Preparing financial statements and management reports regularly.

Providing periodic insights to management on income, expenditure, outstanding dues, and profitability.

Assisting in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

Audit Preparation and Support

Coordinating with internal and external auditors for periodic audits.

Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date supporting documents for all transactions.

Data Security and Confidentiality

Safeguarding sensitive financial data.

Maintaining confidentiality regarding company accounts and financial dealings.

Implementing regular backups of Tally data to avoid data loss.

Coordination with Other Departments

Collaborating with the sales, purchase, HR, and operations departments for accurate data collection.

Ensuring timely receipt and payment processes with vendors and customers.
-
Supporting senior management with customized reports and analysis.

Required Skills and Competencies

Proficiency in Tally ERP 9 / TallyPrime: Ability to use all modules effectively, including accounting, inventory, taxation, and payroll.

Knowledge of Accounting Principles: Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, accounting standards, and financial reporting.

Taxation Knowledge: Familiarity with GST, TDS, income tax, and statutory compliance.

Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.
