it is a job dedicated to test smart equipment for power OHL transformers over poles, it needs ability to communicate routers over WAN and ip configuration, and testing LV vis avometer
Key Responsibilities:
1. Field Testing of Smart Equipment on OHL Transformers
-
Conduct on-site testing and commissioning of smart communication modules installed on power poles and OHL transformers.

Verify signal integrity and equipment performance at different stages of the installation.

Ensure proper physical connections to transformer terminals and secondary LV distribution points.

Troubleshoot connectivity or data transmission issues related to pole-mounted smart devices.
2. IP Configuration and WAN Communication
-
Configure IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways, and DNS settings on field routers and switches.

Establish communication between remote smart devices and central control systems using WAN protocols.

Use diagnostic tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, SSH, telnet) to test and verify network paths.

Coordinate with backend IT/network teams to ensure successful device integration into the SCADA or utility communication system.
3. Router and Modem Setup
-
Install and configure industrial-grade routers/modems at pole or transformer locations.

Set up VPN tunnels or secure communication channels as per utility guidelines.

Perform firmware updates and router diagnostics in the field.
-
Maintain records of MAC addresses, IP configurations, and installation parameters.
4. Electrical and Low Voltage (LV) Testing
-
Use Avometer (Analog/Digital Multimeter) to test low-voltage circuits for continuity, voltage levels, and grounding.

Validate transformer secondary voltage, phase sequence, and earth fault protection during installation or maintenance.

Detect anomalies in transformer LV output or connected smart meters.
-
Ensure all equipment complies with electrical safety standards and voltage thresholds.
5. Documentation and Reporting
-
Maintain detailed field logs including equipment serial numbers, test results, IP configurations, and photos of installations.

Submit daily or weekly field activity reports to the project supervisor or engineering lead.

Report non-conformance or installation issues immediately with recommendations for corrective actions.

Document firmware/software versions and backup configuration files of networked devices.
6. Safety and Compliance
-
Follow all electrical safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
Ensure compliance with utility regulations, telecom standards, and local electrical codes.
-
Adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) and live-line working procedures when testing on energized networks.
7. Coordination and Support
-
Work closely with electrical line teams, network administrators, and SCADA engineers during field operations.
-
Provide technical guidance to field technicians or subcontractors during installations.

Assist in remote troubleshooting by communicating clearly with backend support teams and control room staff.
