Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Machine Operation:
-
Operate manual/conventional lathes to manufacture parts as per job specifications.

Set up machines with proper tooling, chucks, fixtures, and feeds.

Perform precision turning, facing, threading, tapering, knurling, and other machining operations.
2. Reading Technical Drawings:
-
Interpret and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, and job cards.
-
Ensure dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes are achieved as per client or production requirements.
3. Material Handling:
-
Select appropriate raw materials (steel, aluminum, brass, etc.) for machining.

Cut stock material to length using saws or cutting tools before turning operations.
4. Tool Setting and Maintenance:
-
Set cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cuts for various materials.
-
Use appropriate measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, vernier scales, dial indicators) for quality control.

Perform routine maintenance on lathe machines, lubricating parts and replacing worn tools.
5. Quality Control:
-
Inspect finished products for accuracy, surface finish, and tolerance compliance.

Maintain production logs, inspection reports, and rejection records.
-
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and minimize material wastage.
6. Safety and Housekeeping:
-
Follow workshop safety protocols, wear PPE (gloves, helmet, goggles), and report unsafe conditions.

Keep machines and work areas clean, organized, and free from hazards.

Handle tools and materials safely to prevent injury or damage.
7. Collaboration and Reporting:
-
Coordinate with production supervisors, quality inspectors, and maintenance staff.

Report machine issues, delays, or defects to the supervisor immediately.
-
Support other machinists and help train junior operators when needed.
