Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled UPS Batteries Service Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate should possess at least a basic to intermediate understanding of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and battery technologies, along with a hands-on approach to performing routine maintenance, breakdown troubleshooting, installations, and other service-related activities. This role demands a practical, safety-conscious individual who is capable of working independently or as part of a team, often in customer-facing situations.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. UPS Installation and Commissioning:

Carry out installation of various types and brands of UPS systems, including single-phase and three-phase configurations.

Ensure proper connection of input/output power lines, neutral, and earthing during installation as per standard electrical safety guidelines.

Perform pre-commissioning checks, such as verifying the integrity of wiring, checking input/output voltages, and confirming UPS configuration settings.

Conduct full commissioning tests to verify the system is operating correctly before handing over to the client.

Explain basic operational procedures to the customer post-installation.
2. Preventive Maintenance (PM) Activities:

Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance visits as per service contracts or manufacturer recommendations.

Check the physical condition of batteries, terminals, cables, and UPS units.

Measure and record battery voltage, specific gravity (for flooded lead-acid batteries), and UPS internal logs or alarms.

Clean terminals, tighten loose connections, and apply anti-corrosive gel as needed.

Run system diagnostics and simulate load conditions to ensure the UPS is operating within acceptable performance parameters.

Identify and proactively address any early signs of failure to minimize downtime for the client.
3. Breakdown and Troubleshooting:

Respond to emergency breakdown calls in a timely and professional manner.

Identify faults in UPS systems or battery banks, including alarms, power failures, charging failures, inverter faults, etc.

Use diagnostic tools and multimeters to trace faults in circuitry, control boards, power modules, or batteries.

Replace faulty components or recommend replacements where repair is not feasible.

Maintain proper documentation of fault reports, solutions provided, and any parts used during the repair process.

Coordinate with senior technical staff or OEM support teams when required.
4. Battery Handling and Replacement:

Evaluate the health of battery banks using load testers, battery analyzers, or impedance testers.

Carry out safe removal and disposal of old or damaged batteries as per environmental guidelines.

Install new batteries (VRLA, SMF, or tubular batteries), ensuring proper connections, charging levels, and UPS compatibility.

Ensure batteries are labeled, aligned correctly, and supported on racks or shelves according to best practices.

Test and record performance of newly installed batteries.
5. Shifting Activities:

Assist in shifting of UPS systems or battery banks from one site to another.
-
Perform safe disconnection, packaging, transportation, and reinstallation at the new location.

Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure equipment safety during transit.

Recommission the UPS system at the new site and perform necessary checks before going live.
6. Annual Maintenance Services (AMC):
-
Execute comprehensive AMC services as per the agreed contract.

Perform complete health checks of UPS systems and battery banks.
-
Update firmware (where applicable), calibrate equipment, and clean internal/external components.
-
Replace consumable parts such as filters, fans, or fuses as part of preventive maintenance.

Provide the client with detailed reports covering system health, recommendations, and service history.

Offer technical support and consultancy to the client regarding upgrades, capacity expansion, or optimization.
Qualifications and Experience:

ITI/Diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering. A degree is an added advantage.

Minimum field experience in UPS systems and battery services preferred.

Basic understanding of AC/DC power systems, battery technologies (VRLA, SMF, lithium-ion, tubular), and power electronics.

Familiarity with multimeters, battery testers, thermal scanners, and similar diagnostic tools.

Should possess knowledge of safety protocols, PPE usage, and risk assessments related to electrical maintenance.
