Job Description
Prepare the OT for urological procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile and ready.
Assist urologists and surgical teams during operations including TURP, cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, PCNL, and other endourological and open procedures.
Maintain a sterile environment in accordance with infection control guidelines.
Monitor patient vitals and condition throughout the perioperative phase.
Handle specimens and documentation according to hospital policy.
Provide post-operative nursing care and support recovery protocols.
Maintain accurate patient records and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
Manage and operate urology-specific equipment, including endoscopes, cautery machines, and laser devices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pre-Operative Responsibilities:

Prepare the OT for urology procedures by ensuring all necessary surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment (e.g., cystoscopes, ureteroscopes, resectoscopes, laser devices) are sterilized and ready.

Check and confirm patient identity, surgical site, consent forms, and pre-operative diagnostic reports.

Assist in positioning the patient correctly for the specific type of urology surgery, ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia teams to review the surgical plan and assess the patient’s readiness for surgery.

Set up sterile surgical fields and ensure proper aseptic techniques are followed by all members in the OT.
2. Intra-Operative Responsibilities:

Assist the surgeon during urological procedures by passing instruments, sutures, catheters, and other required materials.

Operate and monitor specialized equipment used in urology surgeries (e.g., electrocautery machines, irrigation pumps, endoscopic towers).

Ensure that all counts (sponges, instruments, needles) are correct before, during, and after the procedure to prevent retained items.

Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly to requests during the procedure.

Maintain a sterile environment throughout the surgical procedure, ensuring infection control standards are strictly followed.
3. Post-Operative Responsibilities:

Assist in transferring the patient safely from the OT to the recovery room or ICU, ensuring proper monitoring and handover to post-operative care staff.

Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment used during the surgery.

Document surgical notes, instruments used, specimens sent to the lab, and post-operative reports accurately.

Monitor the surgical site for signs of bleeding or infection and alert the surgical team if complications arise.

Support the recovery team in managing the patient’s pain and vitals in the immediate post-operative phase.
