Job Overview
A US/Canada Logistics Expert is responsible for managing, coordinating, and optimizing the transportation of goods between the United States and Canada. This role involves planning shipments, monitoring deliveries, ensuring compliance with cross-border regulations, and maintaining smooth communication with carriers, brokers, and clients.
The ideal candidate must have in-depth knowledge of North American logistics operations, cross-border regulations, and transportation management systems. A strong understanding of USMCA, customs documentation, and carrier negotiations is essential.
Key Responsibilities
A. Shipment Planning & Coordination

Plan, organize, and manage freight movements between the US and Canada.

Select the most efficient and cost-effective transportation modes (FTL, LTL, air, ocean).

Schedule pickups and deliveries in coordination with clients, warehouses, and carriers.

Track shipments in real-time and ensure on-time deliveries.

Handle urgent shipping requirements and resolve scheduling conflicts promptly.
B. Customs & Compliance Management

Prepare and review customs documentation for cross-border shipments.

Ensure compliance with US, Canadian, and international trade regulations.

Stay updated on USMCA regulations and changes in customs policies.

Coordinate with customs brokers for smooth clearance of goods.

Maintain accurate records for audits and regulatory requirements.
C. Carrier & Vendor Management

Source, negotiate, and manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers.

Evaluate carrier performance based on cost, reliability, and transit times.

Maintain an updated database of preferred carriers and freight partners.

Monitor freight costs and recommend cost-saving measures.
D. Documentation & Reporting

Prepare bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs declarations.

Maintain accurate shipment records and reports for internal tracking.

Generate weekly and monthly logistics performance reports for management.

Handle claims for damages, delays, or losses with carriers and insurance providers.
E. Process Optimization

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in cross-border logistics operations.

Implement technology-driven solutions for better tracking and reporting.

Streamline workflows between internal teams, carriers, and customs brokers.

Develop cost-effective strategies to reduce shipping expenses while maintaining service quality.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of US and Canadian logistics regulations.

Hands-on experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

Understanding of freight forwarding, customs clearance, and supply chain operations.

Familiarity with USMCA, NAFTA, and other trade agreements.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.

A diploma in freight forwarding or customs management is a plus.

Experience:

2 to 5 years of experience in US/Canada logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain operations.

Experience in cross-border shipment coordination is highly preferred.
