VFD Drive Repair Service
Job Description
Proven experience in VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting (ABB, Siemens, Danfoss, etc.)
Strong understanding of electrical circuits, control systems, and PLC interfaces
Ability to diagnose and repair drive faults, power section failures, IGBT issues
Proficient in using testing instruments (multimeter, oscilloscope, insulation tester, etc.)
Familiarity with industrial automation systems and motor control
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Strong safety practices and knowledge of electrical standards
Willingness to travel to client sites for service
Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in VFD servicing.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics

Conduct on-site or in-house inspections of faulty VFDs to identify issues or damaged components.

Use testing instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, thermal imagers, and VFD-specific diagnostic tools to analyze system faults.

Interpret fault codes and understand VFD internal software behavior to isolate root causes.

Evaluate both power electronics and control circuit boards to determine repairability.
2. Repair and Component Replacement
-
Perform component-level repairs on VFD drives, including replacement of IGBTs, capacitors, rectifiers, diodes, resistors, and fuses.

Rework or resolder control boards using ESD-compliant equipment and techniques.

Replace damaged or worn-out cooling fans, heatsinks, power terminals, and display interfaces.

Clean internal VFD assemblies using safe solvents or ultrasonic cleaning methods.
3. Testing and Calibration

After repairs, test VFDs under load or simulated conditions to ensure proper functionality.

Calibrate VFD parameters such as frequency, voltage, acceleration/deceleration time, torque limits, and motor protection settings.

Verify communication with PLCs or SCADA systems via Modbus, Profibus, or Ethernet/IP (if applicable).
4. Installation and Commissioning Support

Assist customers in the installation and setup of new or replacement VFDs.

Program drives according to motor and application requirements.

Ensure proper wiring, grounding, and electrical safety compliance during installation.
5. Preventive Maintenance

Perform scheduled maintenance checks on VFDs including inspection of connections, fan operation, heat dissipation, and firmware updates.

Document drive performance data and report early signs of component wear or instability.

Recommend proactive replacements or upgrades to clients for aging equipment.
6. Field Service and Customer Interaction

Respond promptly to customer service calls and provide on-site troubleshooting and repair services.

Educate customers on proper usage, maintenance, and safety practices of VFD systems.

Maintain a professional attitude and clear communication when dealing with clients and plant staff.
7. Documentation and Reporting

Prepare detailed reports outlining the fault analysis, repair work performed, components replaced, and testing results.

Maintain service records in internal databases or CRM platforms.

Track spare parts inventory and report shortages or procurement needs.
