Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and responsible VMC Operator to join our production or manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in operating Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines, inspecting finished components, and ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and productivity.
The VMC Operator will be responsible for machine setup, tool changes, performing precision machining tasks, and conducting inspections using measuring instruments like micrometers, vernier calipers, and gauges. In addition, the operator must maintain accurate production logs, fill out machine check sheets, and ensure compliance with safety procedures and 5S standards on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operating VMC Machines:

Set up and operate VMC (Vertical Machining Center) machines as per job specifications and production schedules.

Load raw materials or workpieces into the machine fixtures accurately.

Monitor machine operations and adjust feeds, speeds, or tooling as necessary.

Conduct basic machine programming or input pre-written CNC programs (if required).
2. Machining and Component Accuracy:

Produce components as per design drawings, maintaining tight tolerances and specified dimensions.

Ensure parts meet quality standards, using inspection methods after each machining cycle.

Avoid material wastage and optimize tool life.
3. Component Inspection:

Use precision measuring instruments such as:
-
Vernier calipers

Micrometers
-
Height gauges
-
Bore gauges
-
Dial indicators
-
Thread gauges or plug gauges

Compare finished parts against blueprints or quality checklists.

Record inspection results and inform the supervisor of any deviations or quality issues.
4. Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate production records and daily log sheets.

Record completed quantities, downtime, scrap, and inspection results in prescribed formats.

Fill out machine checklists, tool life sheets, and preventive maintenance records regularly.
5. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of the VMC machine to keep it in proper working condition.

Identify minor machine faults and report major issues to the maintenance team.

Replace worn-out tools or inserts and reset tool offsets if trained.
6. Safety and 5S Compliance:

Follow all safety guidelines, wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), and report unsafe conditions.

Keep the machine and surrounding area clean, organized, and free of hazards.

Follow 5S principles (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) on the shop floor.

Dispose of metal chips and waste materials safely and correctly.
