Job Description
Provide daily nursing care to patients including hygiene, mobility assistance, and nutritional support.
Administer prescribed medications and monitor for adverse reactions or side effects.
Record patient observations, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
Assist doctors and senior nurses during rounds, examinations, and treatments.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medication, post-discharge care, and general health.
Ensure infection control practices and hospital safety procedures are followed at all times.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
Prepare patients for procedures, transfers, or discharge as per medical orders.
Provide emotional support to patients and families during hospitalization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Admission and Discharge:

Assist in the admission process by collecting patient history, preparing the bed, and explaining ward procedures.

Ensure patient identification tags, charts, and case files are correctly maintained.

Prepare patients for discharge by educating them about medications, follow-up schedules, and basic post-discharge care.
2. Patient Monitoring and Care:
-
Monitor patients' vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration rate) regularly.

Observe and report any changes in patients’ condition to the doctor or senior nurse promptly.

Provide basic bedside care including bathing, feeding, changing dressings, and maintaining hygiene.

Assist immobile or post-operative patients with mobility, exercises, or use of medical aids.
3. Medication and Treatment Administration:
-
Administer medications orally, intravenously, or via injections as prescribed by doctors.

Set up and monitor IV fluids, catheters, oxygen therapy, and other treatment devices.

Ensure accurate documentation of all medications and treatments administered in the patient file or hospital system.

Manage safe storage and handling of drugs and medical equipment in the ward.
4. Pre and Post-Procedure Support:

Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, minor surgeries, or medical procedures.

Provide post-procedural care, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient stability.

Support patients emotionally and provide reassurance during stressful procedures.
5. Infection Control and Safety:
-
Follow standard precautions and infection control protocols to ensure a clean and safe environment.

Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.

Maintain hygiene and sterilization of ward equipment, beds, linens, and patient surroundings.

Dispose of biomedical waste responsibly according to hospital policies.
6. Communication and Coordination:

Coordinate with doctors, physiotherapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care.

Update attending physicians on the status of patients during rounds.

Communicate effectively with patients and their families about care procedures, schedules, and progress.

Respond empathetically to patient queries or concerns, promoting mental well-being and trust.
7. Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain daily nursing notes, patient charts, medication records, and incident reports accurately.

Record shift-wise patient updates and hand over information to the next duty nurse.

Ensure timely and accurate reporting of critical events, accidents, or emergencies to supervisors.
8. Emergency Response:

Provide first aid and basic life support in emergency situations until a doctor arrives.

Respond quickly to code blue (cardiac arrest) or other ward emergencies.
-
Stay alert and calm during high-pressure situations such as sudden patient deterioration or accidents.
