Job Description
Conduct daily ward rounds and monitor the progress of admitted patients.
Assess, diagnose, and initiate treatment plans as per consultant guidance.
Document medical history, physical examination findings, treatment orders, and progress notes accurately in patient records.
Respond promptly to medical emergencies, code blues, and deterioration in patient conditions.
Coordinate with nursing staff, diagnostic services, and consultants for effective patient care.
Administer medications, IV fluids, and other treatments as prescribed.
Ensure timely execution of investigations (e.g., lab tests, imaging) and review results.
Provide clinical support during procedures and surgeries as needed.
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
Ensure all clinical activities are conducted in line with hospital policies and medical ethics.
Maintain accurate records for discharge summaries, referrals, and transfers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Monitoring and Care

Conduct regular ward rounds to assess the health status of admitted patients.

Monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate.

Record and update patient medical records accurately and promptly.

Identify any changes in a patient's condition and take necessary immediate actions.

Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by consultants or senior doctors.

Provide emergency care when required, including basic life support and initial stabilization.
2. Medical Documentation

Maintain detailed and accurate patient charts and medical histories.

Document all treatment plans, progress notes, and any changes in the patient’s condition.

Ensure proper communication of patient status during shift changes to the incoming RMO or medical team.

Prepare discharge summaries and ensure patients are informed about their medications and follow-up care.
3. Coordination and Communication
-
Act as the first point of contact for patients and their families concerning day-to-day care issues.

Liaise with consultants, specialists, and senior medical staff for patient management.

Coordinate with nursing staff to ensure timely administration of medication and treatments.

Communicate with diagnostic departments (lab, radiology) to arrange tests and follow up on results.

Facilitate multidisciplinary team meetings if needed, to discuss patient progress and care plans.
4. Emergency Response

Be available on-call to respond quickly to medical emergencies in the ward.

Provide immediate treatment and stabilize patients until senior doctors arrive.

Assist during critical situations such as cardiac arrests, seizures, or respiratory distress.

Ensure that emergency protocols and equipment are functional and readily accessible.
5. Patient Safety and Infection Control

Adhere strictly to hospital policies on hygiene, infection control, and patient safety.

Educate patients and families about infection prevention measures.

Ensure proper handling and disposal of medical waste.

Report any incidents or adverse events immediately to hospital administration.
6. Training and Supervision

Guide and support junior medical staff, interns, and medical students in the ward.

Participate in training sessions and continuous medical education programs.

Provide feedback and assist in improving clinical skills of the medical team.
