Job Description
1. Position: Project Officer-Elephant Conservation (WGNL)
2. Location: Coimbatore
3. Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Required:
(i) Masters in Wildlife Biology, Zoology, Forestry, Ecology, Behavior Sciences, Botany, Wildlife Conservation, or any other discipline related to elephant biology and/or Human-Wildlife Conflict;
(ii) At least 2 to 3 years of experience post qualification.
(iii) Proficiency/fluency in English and Tamil. Proficiency/fluency in Malayalam also will be considered.
(iv) Demonstrated interest in working with research and conservation institutions
(v) Working experience of elephant research and skills of tracking elephants
(vi) Data collection in the field
(vii) Engaging closely with government officials for conservation
(viii) Basic report composition skills (data entry, basic data analysis, and writing)
4. Job Profile:
(i) Human elephant conflict data collection in the field, including both ecological surveys and interviews with communities.
(ii) Human elephant data collection from forest department records using app
(iii) Work with government officials and community members to implement solutions for HEC
(iv) Following the collared elephants and collection of data on habitat use and behavior activities
(v) Help conduct a field experiment on replacing lantana with native vegetation.
(vi) Support advocacy work to protect elephant corridors.
