The group B candidates are selected through two written tests involving general intelligence and awareness, numerical ability, reasoning and English. Those who are selected in the written tests would be asked to take up physical efficiency test and medical test. Those who are selected would be called in for the final interview. The group c candidates would be selected by a written test, physical examination and interview.

On an average, the age criteria for every group in ITBP jobs are 18 – 25 years. The minimum educational requirement for group A and B is graduation and for group C, high school education. After completing six years as group A, the candidate would be promoted as non-gazette officer of class 1 scale. After five years in Class 1, the candidate would be promoted to gazette position as assistant commandant.
