CWIT Visiting Fellowship at CRASSH www.freshersworld.com
CRASSH is delighted to announce the third round of a three-year pilot scheme for aCharles Wallace India Trust Visiting Fellowship. The CWIT fellowship at CRASSH offers funding for a term of study and residence in Cambridge during the academic year 2013-14 (October 2013 - June 2014). To apply please read the information below on eligibility carefully and then follow the instructions to access the online application system. The deadline for applications is 12pm GMT on Wednesday 21 October 2012.Â
Eligibility : The scheme is intended for earlier-career academics from India (defined as resident and domiciled in India, normally between the ages of 25 and 45 years). Applicants should have been in full-time academic employment in an Indian university or research institute of equivalent standing for at least five years and have completed a PhD.Â
Field of specialization : Research proposals may be in any field within the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, with an emphasis on disciplinary innovation and cross-disciplinary enquiry. Where the focus includes India, it is expected that projects will adopt an interdisciplinary approach (incorporating, for example, post-colonial, comparative, translation, or trans-regional studies). Proposals need not adhere to the Centre's annual theme, although applicants might wish to take account of it. The theme for 2013-14 will be The Location of Knowledge. Applicants whose research focuses primarily on the culture and history of India are advised to apply to Cambridge’s Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS).
Provision : CRASSH offers a work-space for each Visiting Fellow at the Centre, with full access to its facilities, and provides a congenial social environment in which visitors, staff and scholars can interact on an informal and regular basis. CRASSH will facilitate access to further university resources (libraries, museums, etc). CWIT Fellows are expected to play a full part in the activities of the Centre and to contribute to the weekly work-in-progress seminars.
CRASSH is dedicated to interdisciplinary research, and is located at the heart of the departments of arts, humanities and social sciences in a brand new building. We run over 300 events a year, with more than 20 conferences, 16 faculty research groups, Humanitas Visiting Professors, and longer term interdisciplinary research projects. We have a regular work in progress seminar for visiting fellows – we have 20 external visiting fellows a year and twenty internal, early career fellows. There is an extremely lively intellectual atmosphere of intellectual exchange at the Centre. Cambridge University needs little advertising as an intellectual powerhouse: we are walking distance not only from the University Library with its unparalleled holdings, but also the many other research holdings of the University.
