Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking an energetic, empathetic, and student-focused Academic Counsellor to guide and support students in making informed academic and career choices. The ideal candidate will work closely with students (and sometimes their parents or guardians) to understand their educational goals, explain available programs, assist with admissions, and provide ongoing support during the academic journey.
This role is critical in helping students identify the right academic path, promoting the institution's offerings, and enhancing student satisfaction and retention. The position requires strong communication skills, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to build trust with diverse student profiles.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Student Counselling & Academic Guidance

Conduct one-on-one counselling sessions (in-person, online, or telephonic) to understand student aspirations, educational background, and goals.

Guide students in selecting suitable courses, programs, or academic tracks based on their interests, aptitude, and career plans.

Provide accurate information on courses, entrance requirements, curriculum structure, fees, deadlines, scholarships, and learning outcomes.

Assist students in understanding different streams (science, commerce, arts), study abroad opportunities, or skill-based programs as applicable.
2. Admissions and Enrollment Support

Assist students through the entire admissions process—from application to enrollment.

Conduct follow-up with prospective students to ensure conversion of inquiries into registrations.

Help students with documentation, form filling, fee payment, and onboarding procedures.

Coordinate with internal departments like academics, finance, and marketing to ensure a smooth admission experience.
3. CRM and Lead Management

Record, update, and manage student interactions in a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system.

Handle incoming inquiries from walk-ins, website, phone, emails, social media, and digital campaigns.

Maintain an organized pipeline of leads and follow up regularly to maximize enrollment.

Generate daily/weekly/monthly reports on inquiry-to-conversion ratios, enrolment trends, and student satisfaction.
4. Relationship Building and Retention

Build rapport with students and their families to address concerns and offer guidance.

Maintain communication with enrolled students to track their satisfaction, course progress, or concerns.

Identify and support students at risk of dropping out or disengagement by offering academic support or motivation.
5. Events, Seminars, and Outreach

Represent the organization in school visits, education fairs, workshops, and webinars.

Organize open house events, orientation sessions, career talks, and parent counselling days.

Collaborate with marketing teams to create content and campaigns to attract students.
6. Feedback & Reporting
-
Collect feedback from students and parents on the counselling experience and course structure.

Analyze trends and share insights with academic and leadership teams for course or process improvement.

Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in dealing with student information.
