Introduction

We are seeking a dedicated, student-focused, and proactive Academic Counsellor to join our team. The ideal candidate will guide students and parents in choosing the right academic courses, career paths, and learning programs based on their interests, strengths, and aspirations.

An Academic Counsellor plays a critical role in mentoring students, providing career guidance, and supporting them in making informed decisions about their education. You will act as a bridge between students, parents, faculty, and administration, ensuring students receive the right academic support and counselling.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Guidance & Counselling

  • Provide personalized counselling sessions to students regarding course selection, academic performance, and career options.

  • Help students identify strengths, weaknesses, interests, and aspirations to align their academic choices accordingly.

  • Assist students with study plans, time management strategies, and academic goal setting.

  • Guide students on career prospects linked to specific courses and programs.

2. Admission Counselling

  • Counsel prospective students and parents about available programs, courses, and eligibility criteria.

  • Assist in the admissions process, from inquiry handling to application form submission.

  • Conduct orientation sessions to help new students integrate smoothly into the academic environment.

  • Explain institutional policies, academic rules, and grading systems clearly to students and families.

3. Academic Progress Monitoring

  • Track student academic performance and prepare progress reports.

  • Conduct regular follow-up meetings with students facing academic difficulties.

  • Work with faculty members to identify students who require extra academic support.

  • Recommend remedial measures such as tutorial classes, mentoring sessions, or additional study resources.

4. Career Guidance & Placement Support

  • Provide students with career counselling sessions based on their academic performance and goals.

  • Organize career workshops, webinars, and guest lectures.

  • Collaborate with placement officers to guide students towards internships, job opportunities, and higher education.

  • Share information about competitive exams, scholarships, and skill development programs.

5. Parent Interaction & Communication

  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress, performance, and well-being.

  • Address concerns from parents about academic and personal development.

  • Organize parent-counsellor meetings to build transparency and trust.

6. Workshops & Awareness Programs

  • Conduct motivation sessions, personality development workshops, and study skill seminars.

  • Create awareness about mental health, stress management, and exam preparation techniques.

  • Support initiatives that improve the overall student experience.

7. Administrative & Reporting Tasks

  • Maintain accurate and updated student counselling records.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on counselling activities and outcomes.

  • Support admission campaigns, academic fairs, and promotional events.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and maintain student confidentiality.

  • Strong counselling and mentoring abilities.

  • Excellent communication and listening skills.

  • Ability to empathize with students and build rapport.

  • Knowledge of academic systems, curriculum frameworks, and career pathways.

2. Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Comfortable with student management systems (ERP/CRM).

  • Ability to prepare reports, presentations, and counselling documentation.
