Audio Visual Project Engineer
Job Description
Job Summary:
The Audio Visual Project Engineer (AV) is responsible for the planning, coordination, design, integration, and execution of audio-visual projects from start to finish. This includes working closely with clients, project managers, vendors, and internal teams to deliver AV systems that meet client specifications and industry standards. The role involves both engineering design and hands-on technical oversight, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and with high performance standards.
This position requires strong technical expertise in AV systems, a solid understanding of electrical and network infrastructure, and project coordination skills. The AV Project Engineer plays a critical role in translating design concepts into functional systems, conducting site surveys, creating system schematics, overseeing installations, and supporting commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning & Design:

Collaborate with the project management team to understand project scope, requirements, and timelines.

Develop detailed system designs, schematics, signal flow diagrams, and rack elevations using CAD or AV design software.

Select appropriate AV equipment and components (e.g., displays, projectors, speakers, amplifiers, control systems, DSPs).

Work with consultants, architects, and general contractors to ensure design integration with building infrastructure.
2. Site Survey & Pre-Installation Activities:

Conduct technical site surveys to gather data on physical layout, cable routing, power, ventilation, and acoustic considerations.

Prepare bill of materials (BOM), cable schedules, and project documentation.

Identify potential installation challenges and propose engineering solutions.
-
Coordinate procurement of materials and ensure availability of equipment before project kick-off.
3. Installation Oversight & Technical Support:
-
Supervise and guide installation technicians or subcontractors during system setup.
-
Provide hands-on support during cable pulling, equipment mounting, and rack building.
-
Ensure installations follow AV design documents, company standards, and safety protocols.

Conduct wiring, termination, and labeling checks during installation.
4. System Integration & Configuration:

Integrate various AV components including audio processors, matrix switchers, displays, microphones, video walls, and control systems.

Configure control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron, AMX) and audio DSPs (e.g., Biamp, QSC, BSS).
-
Program and fine-tune system parameters such as audio levels, video resolution, and automation sequences.

Perform system calibration and testing for functionality and performance.
5. Commissioning & Handover:

Execute system tests and create punch lists of pending tasks.

Resolve technical issues and ensure the system operates as designed.

Provide technical training to clients or end-users on system usage.

Prepare and deliver as-built documentation, user manuals, and project closure reports.
6. Project Coordination & Communication:

Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the project.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams including sales, design, procurement, and service teams.

Attend project meetings and site coordination calls with clients, consultants, and contractors.

Provide regular updates to the project manager regarding progress, issues, and risks.
7. Documentation & Compliance:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, drawings, and system configurations.

Ensure all installations comply with AV industry standards (e.g., AVIXA/InfoComm), electrical codes, and local regulations.

Support technical documentation for certifications, maintenance, and warranty claims.
