Job Description
Assist cardiologists and other healthcare professionals during catheterization procedures.
Prepare and position patients for cardiac interventions and ensure their comfort.
Monitor and document patients’ vital signs before, during, and after procedures.
Administer medications and IV fluids as prescribed by physicians.
Ensure proper handling and maintenance of Cath Lab equipment and instruments.
Maintain a sterile environment and follow infection control protocols.
Educate patients and families about pre-procedure and post-procedure care.
Recognize and respond to medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest situations.
Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with hospital policies.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide optimal patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pre-Procedure Care:

Patient Assessment: Conduct pre-procedure assessments to understand patient history, vital signs, and specific needs before entering the CathLab.

Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about the procedure, explaining what to expect, potential risks, and the recovery process.

Prepare the Patient: Ensure patients are properly prepared for the procedure, including proper positioning, sterilization, and monitoring of vital signs.

IV Line Insertion: Establish intravenous access and administer medications, as ordered by the physician or cardiologist.
2. Assisting During Procedures:

Assistance to Cardiologists: Assist cardiologists or interventional specialists during catheterization procedures such as angiograms, angioplasties, stent placements, and other diagnostic or therapeutic cardiovascular interventions.

Monitoring: Monitor the patient’s vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, etc.) continuously during the procedure and report any changes to the physician immediately.

Aseptic Technique: Ensure sterile technique is maintained in the procedure room to reduce the risk of infection.

Administer Medications: Administer medications such as sedatives, analgesics, or anticoagulants as prescribed by the physician.
3. Post-Procedure Care:

Recovery Monitoring: Monitor patients in the recovery room or post-procedure area for complications such as bleeding, arrhythmias, or other adverse effects following the procedure.

Patient Vital Signs: Continuously monitor patients’ vital signs and notify the physician or other healthcare professionals of any abnormalities.

Patient Education: Provide instructions to patients on post-procedure care, including wound care, activity restrictions, and medications.

Discharge Planning: Coordinate with the healthcare team to prepare the patient for discharge, ensuring follow-up care and appointments are arranged.
4. Documentation and Reporting:

Record Keeping: Accurately document patient information, assessments, procedures performed, medications given, and any significant observations in the patient’s medical records.

Procedure Logs: Maintain accurate logs of procedures, including patient details and any special circumstances during the procedure.
5. Equipment and Safety Management:

CathLab Equipment Handling: Ensure that all necessary equipment for the procedure is sterile, in working order, and available in the procedure room. This includes catheters, wires, stents, and other medical devices.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including radiation safety practices (e.g., wearing lead aprons, monitoring exposure), and ensure proper functioning of the defibrillator, monitors, and emergency equipment.
6. Team Collaboration:

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with other nurses, physicians, cardiologists, and technicians to ensure seamless patient care and procedure execution.

Continuous Improvement: Participate in team meetings, educational programs, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care and procedural outcomes.
