Job Description
Job purpose
Publishing is one of the most dynamic and evolving industries. From the time of letterpress printing to the current digital publishing, there is a sizeable change in this industry. In order to convert a manuscript page to a digital print-ready proof, the text moves through several hands, starting from data capture, coding, copyediting through to final page makeup. Over the period, most of these processes have been automated to a large extent. Aptara is looking for a solution to reduce the number of cycles through an end-to-end workflow design, technology, and resources.
- Shall be trained on XML markup, technical publication rules, editorial practices (correcting grammar, punctuation, and spellings), and page makeup (including final e-file delivery to the customer).
- Shall be responsible for end-to-end production from manuscript markup to print and e-file delivery.
Duties and responsibilities
- Identifying/Verifying different components of input files and preparing the manuscript
- Pre-tagging and coding different elements of a journal article for XML
- XML conversion and validation
- Reading the content for grammar and spelling
- Ensuring publication style
- Preparing page proofs using page makeup tools
- Proofreading and final quality check of the proof
- Preparing print and digital deliveries
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Education: Graduates and postgraduates in science and technology/humanities/journalism/publishing
- Computers (MS Office or any programming language) with adequate typing speed
- Knowledge of English grammar rules
- Knowledge of XML is an added advantage
