Desktop Support Engineer
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Support and Troubleshooting

Provide first- and second-level technical support to end-users for desktop systems, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and other hardware.

Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.

Assist users in resolving application problems related to office productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace), operating systems, and third-party software.

Perform root cause analysis for recurring technical problems and propose long-term solutions.
2. Installation and Configuration
-
Install, configure, and maintain desktop and laptop computers, including operating systems and software applications.

Set up and configure new hardware, including desktops, docking stations, monitors, keyboards, mice, and peripherals.

Deploy system updates, patches, and security enhancements.

Join devices to the domain, set up user profiles, and configure email accounts.
3. System Maintenance and Optimization
-
Perform routine maintenance checks and updates on computers and IT equipment.
-
Monitor system performance and carry out preventive maintenance to avoid potential issues.
-
Manage antivirus and endpoint protection software, ensuring systems are secure and compliant with company policies.
4. User Account and Access Management
-
Create, modify, and manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies in Active Directory.

Handle password resets, login issues, and access requests.
-
Set up email accounts, distribution lists, and user mailboxes using platforms like Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft 365.
5. Network Support
-
Provide basic network troubleshooting (LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).

Assist users with network connectivity issues, both wired and wireless.
-
Support VPN setup and troubleshooting for remote workers.
6. IT Asset Management
-
Track and manage IT assets, including hardware inventory and software licenses.

Document hardware assignments and ensure asset records are up to date.
-
Coordinate with vendors for hardware repairs or warranty claims.
7. Documentation and Reporting
-
Maintain accurate records of support requests, resolutions, and system configurations using ticketing systems like ServiceNow, Jira, or Zendesk.

Generate reports on recurring issues or performance metrics.
-
Contribute to knowledge base articles and user guides.
8. End-User Training and Support
-
Provide one-on-one or group training to end-users on using software and hardware effectively.

Offer guidance on best practices related to cybersecurity, data backups, and efficient system usage.

Support onboarding and offboarding processes by setting up equipment for new hires or decommissioning devices for departing employees.
