Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fabrication Fitter with in-depth knowledge of steel structure fabrication, erection work, and welding techniques, particularly SMAW, MIG/MAG, and SAW welding. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in handling pre-fabricated steel structures, gantry cranes, and on-site erection processes. This role requires technical proficiency in reading fabrication drawings, using fabrication tools, and executing jobs both in the workshop and on-site.
The Fabrication Fitter plays a crucial role in ensuring quality, precision, and safety in the fabrication and erection of heavy steel components used in industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Steel Fabrication and Assembly

Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.

Mark, cut, drill, grind, and fit steel sections and components using appropriate tools and machines (e.g., gas cutting, angle grinders, magnetic drills).

Assemble steel parts and structures such as beams, columns, trusses, girders, pipe supports, and crane gantries.

Prepare and fit materials to welding tolerance, ensuring precision and alignment.
2. Welding and Finishing

Perform welding operations using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (MIG/MAG), and SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) processes.

Inspect welding joints and ensure adherence to quality standards.

Carry out tack welding to hold components in place for final welding by certified welders, when required.
3. Site Erection Work

Assist in the erection of pre-fabricated steel structures at construction sites.

Install fabricated steel structures using cranes, chain blocks, slings, and other rigging equipment under the guidance of site engineers.

Ensure proper alignment, bolting, and welding during erection activities.

Follow safety protocols during working at heights, lifting, and handling heavy materials.
4. Production and Planning Support

Coordinate with the production planner and supervisor to execute daily fabrication targets.

Maintain material usage logs, monitor production timelines, and report delays or material shortages.

Identify fabrication inefficiencies and suggest process improvements.
5. Equipment and Tool Handling

Operate workshop machinery like power saws, cutting torches, hydraulic presses, bending machines, and welding machines.

Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition.

Adhere to workshop housekeeping and equipment maintenance schedules.
6. Quality Assurance and Safety

Conduct self-checks and inspections during and after fabrication work to ensure dimensional accuracy and structural integrity.

Comply with ISO standards and company quality assurance procedures.

Follow all occupational health and safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
