Key Responsibilities:
1. Blood Collection and Sample Handling:

Perform venipuncture and other methods of blood collection (capillary or finger prick) with skill and precision.

Label, store, and prepare blood samples accurately for laboratory testing, ensuring proper handling and transportation procedures are followed.

Collect specimens for other routine diagnostic tests such as urine, sputum, or swabs when required.

Ensure correct patient identification and maintain sample traceability throughout the collection and testing process.
2. Patient Care and Communication:
-
Interact professionally and compassionately with patients, including children, elderly individuals, and those with special needs.

Explain procedures clearly to patients to ease anxiety or discomfort.

Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and comfort, especially when handling female patients or in sensitive environments.

Provide first aid in case of complications like fainting or bleeding during or after the procedure.
3. Recordkeeping and Documentation:
-
Maintain accurate records of all samples collected, tests requisitioned, and reports delivered.

Input patient data into laboratory information systems (LIS) or manual registers as required.

Ensure consent forms and test requests are properly documented before sample collection.
4. Infection Control and Hygiene:
-
Follow strict aseptic techniques and infection control practices, including sterilization and disposal of used equipment like syringes, needles, gloves, and tubes.

Wear proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as gloves, lab coats, and face masks during procedures.

Ensure the cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy stations, collection kits, and sample transport containers.
5. Coordination and Teamwork:

Work closely with laboratory technicians, pathologists, nurses, and front-desk staff to ensure smooth operations.

Assist with follow-up communication or coordination when re-sampling is required due to sample rejection.

Participate in health camps, blood drives, or home collection visits as assigned.

Maintain punctuality, discipline, and professionalism in work conduct.
