Job Description
Job Summary:
A Field Technician – ISP and IT Infrastructure is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting internet services and IT infrastructure components at customer premises and enterprise sites. This includes fiber and broadband internet setup, LAN/WAN cabling, routers and switches installation, Wi-Fi configuration, and other on-site technical services.
The technician is a front-line representative of the company and plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality service delivery and customer satisfaction. This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving ability, physical readiness for field work, and excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Installation & Configuration:
-
Install broadband connections (fiber, DSL, wireless) at homes, offices, and commercial buildings.

Set up and configure customer-premise equipment (CPE) such as routers, switches, modems, ONTs (Optical Network Terminals), and Wi-Fi devices.

Perform internal cabling (LAN, UTP, coaxial, or fiber) as required.

Mount wireless access points and configure network settings as per service plans or user requirements.

Coordinate with backend teams for activation and signal testing.
2. Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
-
Diagnose and fix connectivity issues at customer sites, including speed issues, intermittent disconnection, and no connectivity.

Perform regular maintenance visits for corporate clients to ensure IT infrastructure uptime.

Troubleshoot hardware, cable faults, power supply issues, and device configuration errors.
-
Replace faulty hardware (modems, routers, switches, etc.) as needed.
3. Customer Support:
-
Attend customer service requests (tickets or calls) in a timely and professional manner.

Guide customers on proper equipment usage, security, and network practices.

Provide clear explanations of issues and resolutions to non-technical users.
-
Escalate unresolved issues to higher technical support or engineering teams when required.
4. Documentation & Reporting:
-
Maintain service logs, installation reports, checklists, and closure documents.

Update ticket status in CRM or service management software (e.g., Zoho Desk, Freshdesk, Salesforce).

Take photos of work performed (e.g., installation layout, device configurations) for quality assurance.

Submit daily reports to the supervisor on tasks completed, pending issues, and customer feedback.
5. Network Infrastructure Works:

Perform structured cabling in office environments (CAT6, fiber optic splicing, patch panel termination).

Install and configure network switches, IP cameras, firewalls, and access control systems.

Conduct site surveys to assess installation feasibility and requirements.

Collaborate with network engineers to support backbone connectivity setups and expansions.
6. Safety & Compliance:

Adhere to safety protocols while working on rooftops, ladders, electrical panels, or confined spaces.

Ensure correct usage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and tools.
-
Follow company SOPs, customer service standards, and installation guidelines.

Handle customer property and infrastructure responsibly.
