API Fitter / Mechanical Maintenance Fitter
Position: Fitter – API Plant Maintenance

Job Purpose
To carry out preventive, breakdown and routine mechanical maintenance of API manufacturing equipment, piping and utility systems, ensuring reliable plant operation while strictly following cGMP, EHS, SOP and permit-to-work requirements. Similar API fitter roles commonly cover reactors, centrifuges, pumps, agitators, dryers, pipelines, valves and utility equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of reactors, centrifuges, agitators, dryers, ANFD/RCVD, pumps, gearboxes and other process equipment.
- Carry out dismantling, assembly, fitting, alignment and installation of mechanical equipment.
- Attend maintenance of centrifugal, vacuum and dosing pumps, mechanical seals, bearings and gearboxes.
- Inspect and maintain MS/SS pipelines, valves, steam traps and process lines.
- Identify and rectify mechanical problems such as leakage, vibration, abnormal noise, overheating and equipment failure.
- Perform shaft alignment, coupling alignment, lubrication and replacement of worn-out components.
- Support maintenance of plant utilities such as boilers, compressors, cooling towers, chillers and vacuum systems, wherever required.
- Read basic mechanical drawings, equipment layouts and maintenance instructions.
- Use hand tools, power tools and measuring instruments safely and correctly.
- Support plant shutdown, equipment installation, commissioning and modification activities.
- Coordinate with Production, Utility, Electrical, Instrumentation and EHS teams for maintenance activities.
- Complete maintenance work orders, checklists, logbooks and equipment history records.
- Follow LOTO, work permits, PPE and other plant safety procedures.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and 5S standards in the maintenance area.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment abnormalities, leaks and potential breakdown risks.
- Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with cGMP, SOPs and site safety standards.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on mechanical fitting and maintenance skills.
- Knowledge of pumps, valves, bearings, mechanical seals, gearboxes and piping.
- Basic knowledge of fabrication, welding and alignment.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of maintenance tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Understanding of API/chemical process plant equipment will be an advantage.
- Safety-conscious and comfortable working in rotational shifts.
Qualification & Experience
Mandatory: ITI – Fitter
Preferred: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Experience: 2–6 years in API, pharmaceutical, chemical or process manufacturing maintenance.
