We are looking for an experienced UNIX system administrator to join our IT department. As a UNIX system administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of our UNIX systems. In this role, you will troubleshoot server errors, install new system hardware, respond to user issues, and monitor the performance of the network.

Job Summary
A UNIX System Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, managing, and maintaining UNIX-based servers and systems. The role involves performance monitoring, troubleshooting, security management, backup, and disaster recovery to ensure high availability and efficiency of IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Installation & Configuration
- Install, configure, and maintain UNIX-based operating systems (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, etc.).
- Set up user accounts, permissions, and group policies.
- Implement system updates, patches, and kernel upgrades.
2. System Monitoring & Performance Optimization
- Monitor server health, disk usage, CPU performance, and network activity.
- Optimize system resources and load balancing for high performance.
- Implement tuning techniques to enhance system efficiency.
3. Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
- Analyze system logs and performance reports to identify root causes of failures.
- Coordinate with vendors and support teams for hardware/software repairs.
4. Security & Compliance Management
- Implement security policies, firewalls, access controls, and system hardening.
- Conduct regular audits, vulnerability assessments, and log monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards like ISO 27001, HIPAA, or PCI DSS.
5. Backup, Recovery & Disaster Management
- Configure automated backups and restore processes using tools like Bacula, Veritas, or Rsync.
- Implement disaster recovery solutions and failover mechanisms.
- Test backup and restore procedures to ensure business continuity.
6. Automation & Scripting
- Develop automation scripts using Bash, Python, Perl, or Ansible.
- Automate routine tasks such as log rotation, system updates, and user management.
- Manage cron jobs and system schedules for process automation.
7. Network & Storage Management
- Configure NFS, SAN, RAID, and LVM for effective storage management.
- Troubleshoot network-related issues, DNS configurations, and firewalls.
- Work with cloud-based UNIX systems on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Skills & Competencies Required
✅ Proficiency in UNIX & Linux OS – Hands-on experience with RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX.
✅ Scripting & Automation – Knowledge of Bash, Python, Ansible, Puppet, or Perl for system automation.
✅ Networking & Security – Understanding of firewalls, VPNs, TCP/IP, DNS, and system hardening.
✅ Monitoring & Troubleshooting – Experience with Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or Splunk for system health monitoring.
✅ Backup & Disaster Recovery – Familiarity with Veritas, Rsync, Bacula, or cloud backup solutions.
✅ Cloud & Virtualization – Experience with AWS, Azure, VMware, or Kubernetes is a plus.
