Job Summary:
An Insurance Advisor is a professional responsible for helping individuals and businesses choose the right insurance products to meet their specific needs. This includes life insurance, health insurance, general insurance, and retirement or investment-linked insurance plans. The Insurance Advisor acts as a trusted consultant, guiding clients through policy options, risk coverage, premium comparisons, and claims processes.
The role is primarily sales and relationship-focused, requiring excellent communication skills, product knowledge, and customer service. Whether working independently, as part of an insurance agency, or under a corporate insurance partner (e.g., banks or NBFCs), the advisor's main objective is to understand client needs and offer suitable insurance solutions that provide both protection and peace of mind.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Client Acquisition and Lead Generation

Identify potential customers through cold calling, field visits, referrals, social media, and business networking.

Educate prospects about the need for insurance coverage and financial planning.

Conduct client meetings in person, via phone, or through digital platforms to present insurance products and solutions.
2. Needs Assessment and Policy Recommendation

Understand each client’s individual or business needs, financial situation, and risk exposure.

Analyze life stage, income, dependents, liabilities, and goals to suggest appropriate insurance plans (term, ULIP, endowment, health, vehicle, etc.).

Customize solutions that align with the client’s budget and long-term financial objectives.
3. Product Knowledge and Presentation

Stay updated on all insurance product offerings from the company (plans, riders, premium structures, exclusions).

Explain features, benefits, coverage terms, and claim procedures in simple language.

Assist clients in comparing multiple plans and understanding differences in coverage and premiums.
4. Policy Issuance and Documentation

Guide clients through proposal form filling, document submission (KYC, income proof, etc.), and medical requirements.

Coordinate with underwriting and operations teams to ensure smooth and timely policy issuance.

Follow up with clients to resolve any pending documentation or medical checks.
5. Post-Sales Service

Provide ongoing customer support after policy issuance, including updates, premium reminders, renewals, endorsements, and claims assistance.

Assist policyholders or their beneficiaries in filing and tracking insurance claims.

Ensure high client satisfaction and maintain long-term relationships for policy renewals and cross-sell opportunities.
6. Sales Reporting and Compliance

Maintain daily records of client meetings, sales calls, leads, follow-ups, and closed policies.

Meet monthly or quarterly business targets for premium collection and policy issuance.

Adhere to all IRDAI guidelines and company regulations regarding ethical sales, data privacy, and compliance.
