Job Description

Job Title: Internship

Intern for Women's Economic Empowerment Unit

Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledge Management and Documentation:

  • Review, edit and finalize submitted knowledge products such as narrative reports, research reports, evaluation reports etc. for projects on WEE including for website and social media;
  • Assist in preparation of knowledge resources and communications and background material for internal and external use, including, donor reports, programme assessments, newsletters fact sheets as well as on thematic issues;
  • Collate and organize knowledge resources;
  • Facilitate in dissemination of knowledge products;
  • Update WEE Database for resources and partners;
  • Research and documentation support for WEE’s ongoing initiatives.

Training/Consultation Management:

  • Provide assistance to the WEE team in organising trainings/consultations and compiling relevant information, among other tasks;
  • Participate in various meetings of the WEE unit/ UN Women, with partners and other stakeholders.

Deliverables:

  • Select copy edited reports including research reports, programme narrative and evaluation reports;
  • Knowledge Resources and communications material including for websites and social media developed;
  • Updated WEE database for knowledge resources and partners;
  • Ongoing support for research and documentation including in trainings/events/meetings.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: 

  • The intern must have studied International development, Gender and development, Social development, or other similar subject at the university level.
  • Be enrolled in a Post graduate school programme; Be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree programme (minimum Master's level or equivalent); Have post-graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of post-graduation.

Language: Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required; Working knowledge of another UN language a distinct advantage

Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women.

UN Women Internship Policy:

Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a post graduate programme ;
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree programme (Post Graduate equivalent);
  • Have post graduated with a university degree (as (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year.

UN Women internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;

The evaluation process for selection of the candidate will be based on the following assessment:

  • Interview;
  • Written Test
