Job Summary:
A Lab Technician – Chemical Engineering Fresher is responsible for supporting chemical experiments, tests, and research activities in a laboratory or industrial environment. Working under the supervision of senior engineers or scientists, the fresher plays a crucial role in sample preparation, data collection, equipment handling, and ensuring safety compliance.
This position is ideal for recent graduates in chemical engineering or related fields who are looking to start their careers in laboratory work, research, manufacturing, or quality control. A successful candidate should have strong observational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of chemical processes and lab safety.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sample Preparation and Testing:

Prepare chemical samples for testing and analysis as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Assist in conducting physical and chemical tests such as pH measurement, titration, viscosity, density, and other standard tests.

Label, document, and store samples accurately to maintain traceability.
2. Support for Experiments and Research:

Assist in setting up experimental apparatus, instruments, and glassware for chemical reactions or material testing.

Follow instructions from senior chemical engineers or lab supervisors to conduct experiments.

Observe and record experimental data during trials, including temperature, pressure, color changes, and reaction time.
3. Equipment Handling and Maintenance:

Operate basic lab equipment like burettes, beakers, centrifuges, ovens, viscometers, spectrophotometers, and pH meters.

Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and maintenance of lab instruments to ensure accurate readings.

Report any malfunctions, damage, or safety hazards to supervisors promptly.
4. Data Entry and Documentation:

Record experiment results, observations, and test outcomes in laboratory notebooks or software systems.

Assist in the preparation of test reports, material data sheets, or quality control documentation.

Ensure accurate labeling and traceability of chemicals, solutions, and test results.
5. Safety and Compliance:

Strictly follow laboratory safety protocols including wearing PPE (lab coats, gloves, goggles, masks).

Handle hazardous chemicals with care as per MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) guidelines.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all hygiene and waste disposal norms.

Participate in regular safety drills, audits, and training sessions.
6. Inventory and Supplies Management:

Monitor stock levels of lab chemicals, reagents, and consumables.

Assist in preparing requisitions for lab supplies and ensure proper storage.

Label and maintain chemical inventory with updated expiry dates and hazard classifications.
7. Team Coordination and Support:

Collaborate with other technicians, interns, and engineers to ensure timely completion of tasks.

Support cross-functional teams in process development, quality testing, or product evaluation.

Attend meetings, share insights, and learn from experienced team members.
