A *Lab Technician* (also called a Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Lab Assistant) is responsible for performing laboratory tests, preparing samples, analyzing results, and assisting doctors in diagnosing diseases. They play a key role in detecting and preventing illnesses by working with blood, urine, tissue, and other samples.
#Key Responsibilities:
1. Sample Collection & Preparation:
* Collect blood, urine, and other body fluid samples from patients.
* Label and organize specimens properly.
* Prepare slides or cultures for analysis.
2. Testing & Analysis:
* Conduct routine and specialized lab tests (hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.).
* Operate and calibrate lab equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, and analyzers.
* Follow testing protocols and ensure accurate results.
3. Documentation & Reporting:
* Record test data accurately and maintain lab logs.
* Prepare test reports for physicians and medical staff.
* Ensure confidentiality of patient records.
4. Equipment Maintenance:
* Clean, sterilize, and maintain laboratory instruments.
* Check equipment for malfunctions and report issues promptly.
* Ensure inventory of lab supplies and order when required.
5. Safety & Hygiene:
* Follow strict safety procedures and infection control guidelines.
* Dispose of biohazardous waste according to protocols.
* Wear appropriate PPE (gloves, lab coat, masks, etc.).
6. Coordination with Medical Staff:
* Communicate test findings to doctors and nurses.
* Assist in emergency testing or urgent sample processing.
